Initial impressions after about two hours of use: very good. After over a week: great.
Okay, I've been using the iPad 3 Army Green (not Hideaway) case for about a year and a half, and the Hideaway for the iPad Air for about 2 hours now. I thought I'd post some initial impressions:1) Despite what Gumdrop's customer support said when I asked if the two mic holes are uncovered, one is in fact covered.2) The home button on front is covered by the screen protector, which does not appear to inhibit its operation, though it does need to be pressed with intent.3) Despite what some reviews for the iPad Mini claimed, putting it on does not require multiple attempts (though in fairness that was a different case that is merely very similar). Also, my first impression of the screen protector was that even though it sits much more flush against the screen, it does feel a little tacky, that doesn't appear to actually be the case after some use. Also, the colours are quite vibrant, whereas with the 3rd Gen it dulled them significantly. The cut outs (compared to the iPad 3 case) are much better and because of their edges (which are now molded), don't look like they will tear and the cut out for the screen lock / mute switch is (together with the better positioning on the iPad) much more accessible. Similarly the volume button are responsive. The top power button, just as the home button, needs some force to activate though my initial thoughts are that this is arguable for the best: on the older case I'd occasionally press either button unintentionally, my initial thoughts are that this is fine. I use the multi touch gestures so I don't need the home button much, and I'd rather not press the top button by mistake. So far it's working out fine.Putting the case on was straight forward and the edges massaged into place quickly with a tight fit and no perceptible edges. The built in stand works really well, with magnets holding the stand closed when not needed and open when in use. Overall I'm surprised at how well that does work, because I figured it'd be flimsy. One downside though is that when it's standing, the edges of the stand are hard plastic, meaning that interacting with the screen it offers little resistance and slides across the table easily (of course depending on surface, but ... it slides). There is no obvious way of "fixing" that and given most cases can't manage a decent stand (that's unlikely to get floppy) this is doing well. The other thing that stands out is that the rubber is definitely thinner than it was on the iPad 3 case, making me wonder how much cushioning it would offer, though together with the hard plastic case going around the border of the screen I'm optimistic it'd be sufficient protection. That black plastic screen incidentally cradles the screen well, anchoring in place that does fill me with confidence. Another downside though is that as I mentioned above the thinner rubber feels stiffer (again, less cushioning) and smoother / less grippy, It's common with new rubber so I expect that to wear off and become a little more rubbery with some real use, but time will tell. Still it doesn't add a massive amount of bulk to the Air meaning it still feels light (though double the weight) and smaller than the 3rd gen.On the whole, missing mic hole and not very thick rubber with smooth (lack of) texture. Lightning and head phone jack are accessible and covers seem less subject to tearing. Home and power button less likely to press on accident, volume buttons and mute/rotation lock very accessible. Built-in stand done well, and not a massive increase in bulk (though total weight of wifi model with this case is 800g). Overall this seems like a success, though this may require an update.***Update***So after over a week there are a couple of things I'd like to amend:Firstly, the tackiness of the screen protector was very temporary, but under some lighting conditions it can have a oil like film discoloration happening. This is mostly visible on dark brightness settings, and is fairly minor, but it is there.Secondly, the rubber has plenty of grip, and there is no issue there.Third, the power button is just right in terms of responsiveness, but the home button is more hit and miss. It's never been a problem, but there have been times I'd press it and nothing would happen, which has never been an issue on the 3rd Gen case, or without protection over it. Still it's never been a deal breaker and I don't see how it could be.The stand is great and typing on it works well, the viewing alternative does slide on smooth tables but again it hasn't been a problem.Oh yeah, and the missing mic hole has not come up yet as an issue, but that clearly is a flaw. So I stand by the 4 out of 5 rating, and figure they'll fix this in due time. This is a really good, protective case, with two flaws: one missing mic hole and the home button being covered by a clear piece of plastic that does stop it activating occasionally, and i do wonder if that will put extra pressure / wear on the surrounding area... I hope they fix these two things soon.

Kickstand is a great concept, but over time this design is not durable for our middle schoolers.
We have had this case in place for our middle school students in our 1:1 iPad program. We moved to this Gumdrop Hideaway model from the Griffin Defender model when we transitioned the middle school to the Air model. Initially, we liked the idea of the built-in kickstand feature as compared to the Griffin case. Unfortunately, the kickstand is not very durable in the hands of the typical middle schooler, and the flap that constitutes part of the kickstand feature pops out over time. Further, and one source of the kickstand issue, is (in my opinion) a serious design flaw that may be perpetuated through all Hideaway models: the "nubs" that act as the hinge for the kickstand flap to pivot back-and-forth are part of the *main case* and not part of the flap itself (see photo). This means that, instead of being able to pop a spare flap into place if one or both nubs happen to break (a virtual eventuality), the kickstand feature is rendered completely useless and whole case would need to be replaced. Some students absolutely shred the back of the case within the first year of having it.The case does include an integrate screen cover (I won't necessarily call it a "protector" because it mostly shields the screen from scratches; a face-down drop easily results in a shattered screen. The corner protections seem OK for those sorts of drops. After three years with the Hideaway, we're looking for something else with a sturdier kickstand.UPDATE (5/2019): I've found that the hard-frame part of the kickstand can cause dents in the back of the device, which potentially affects the battery and causes a fast-discharge issue. After I sent a couple of devices for warranty repair because of the battery losing charge precipitously, the support ticket was changed from warranty repair to accidental damage, with photographic evidence of the dents provided as the reason for that change. We've since moved to a different case that has a sturdier, rotatable kickstand, and the the case, overall, has held up much better (excellently, in fact) over a single year of use than the Hideaway ever has.

Very good solid robust protection for the iPad!
Our first gumdrop case had been very well used by both me and my young daughter. It had over 2 years of being hauled about, traveling and numerous bangs and knocks and my iPad Air still remained safe and protected it but subsequently the magnetic clasp that holds the stand up just broke so we went straight ahead and bought a second gumdrop case: same style just another colour! Product is a fantastic way to really protect the iPad but after a few months the magnetic clasp keeping the stand closed just broke so the stand can easily flop open. It's rather annoying but still the stand works. The plastic part that broke is admittedly rather flimsy and really could do with being better reinforced but apart from that the Jack for the headphones and charger port is well protected. The sound controls are also easily accessed and protected (a real bug bear I have on some friend's iPads where the volume control is so heavily protected that you cant control it!).I also find that the stand can be set up and either used more upright or rotated and the iPad then sits at a 45degree Angle which is great for on my lap and typing away (like now!).

Great features, quality and price
We have had this pad for two weeks and so far are very pleased with it. I was skeptical about the higher priced color options being worth the money, so we purchased the lesser expensive blue and green case. The case is sturdy, made of quality rubber that seems as if it would hold up well when dropped. The case comes with a built in screen protector. The case is of some weight, but is not too heavy. The built in kick stand has a strong magnet that helps it stay affixed to the case when folded out. Overall I think this was a great purchase. I am only choosing four stars because we haven't had the product that long and I can't speak to wear and tear over time when used by kids/dropping etc.

Case loose -- same with different case I bought from Gumdrop.
Case loose, but because of the rubber, it does protect iPad well from drop. The home button part of the case is not properly aligned with the iPad home button because the case is loose. Also the opening for the lens partially covers it again because the case fits so loosely so when using it for Skype or Facetime, have to take the case off, otherwise the other party just sees colour of case.

nice rubber feel - easy to grip and hold
Secure fit on the iPad Air. Pros include screen protection (I adjusted brightness a little), nice rubber feel - easy to grip and hold, a decent stand at the back, and ports are also covered by flexible tabs. Cons: Obviously it adds considerable weight. Overall however, it has already paid for itself since the iPad was dropped recently - no damage done thanks to this cover.

Good value. I got this to protect the ipad ...
Good value. I got this to protect the ipad while the kids are using it. It's very sturdy and I feel confident in its ability to protect my ipad. My husband kind of hates it, he thinks it made his beautiful tablet ugly. It was a bit difficult to get on without instructions- I felt kind of dumb until I finally figured it out.
