Love this book
We love reading the book and sharing it with the kids. The only this is the book looked to have been folded in half in shipping. But other then that it was in good condition. Thank you for this amazing book to share with the family.

Lacking Depth/Detail
Not a fan. I would return, but paying the shipping isn’t worth it. The tone of this book came off as rushed- it was almost as if the author was trying to get thru the story as fast as possible and thus what it made up for in time, it lacked in depth. I was not a fan of the English names they used: “Lizard Woman”, “Snow Goddess”, “Volcano Goddess.” It is much easier to read Pele and Poliahu as opposed to the Volcano/Snow goddess. Isn’t a huge part of Hawai’i’s history the language? We give power to the words/names we speak. Personally, reading Volcano Goddess in place of Pele took away from the story for me.As someone who has been told intricately detailed and vibrant stories of our past from a very young age- this book didn’t cut it for me.Hawai’i has a rich, beautiful history. So while I appreciate the passing down of these mo’olelo- I also believe that with a little digging and research these stories could be brought to life and transformed to engage young readers and leave a lasting impression.Illustrations are great though.

Honu, The Protector
Great little book. Being from Hawaii it brought back memories of stories my elders would share. Now it’s my turn to pass on such stories with my great grandchildren. If one is interested in Hawaiian mythology, this is a good starter. Would recommend buying.

Each legend is the perfect length to read your tween at bedtime "for old time's sake." Especially if she's got a school report due on Hawaii coming up...ahem. It's also written well and in a tone you can imagine "the old ones" striking without being too corny. We liked.

However over all I enjoyed it and it came in perfect
While it provided many stories about Hawaiian Mythology that I was already familiar with, it also was inconsistant of what I already knew. The stories were quitr short and sometimes lacked the details I would have needed it I were not already familiar with the subject. However over all I enjoyed it and it came in perfect condition

Great little book full of short stories
Really interesting. The mythology tells you why certain things in Hawaii are named the way they are.

Come talk story wit me...
Hawaiians love to "talk story" & these are quite popular on the big island. Read it so you know exactly what they're talking about when you vistit.
