Fantastic steel, very hard, with beautiful patterns. You can mar the damascus pattern during knife-building and sharpening pretty easily, so tape it up while working on it. It could use a more durable, deeper, etching. If you mar it or scratch it up too much you can buff it out and re-etch the steel to bring the grain back, this is customary for even the finest damascus steel.The file work on the spine is very well done - consistent and symmetrical.One note, this steel is very, very hard! I added some curve and some larger pin holes and it nearly wore out my carbide bit...and don't even bother trying anything other than 100% carbide (fluted) for drilling. I use Hi-Roc, which worked when other bits failed.
