Easy to use and effective. Bike-packing Eastern US and shared my hung food with fellow biker after all his food stolen by raccoons at night. Didn’t hang my lilac scented wet wipes and raccoons stole that. Guess they needed to wipe their hands after eating all his food.

The Selkirk Bear Bag system served me well on a recent backpacking trip on the Pinhoti Trail. The two rope system worked like a charm and the whole package was light weight and small, making it ideal for backpacking. Kept my food dry and secure.

Update: They replaced the whole kit without issue so I increased my review to 4 stars. The grommets on the new rock bag seem more secure. I'll be putting it to use next weekend and will post if I have any new problems.This is a great system and a great price, but durability of the grommets on the rock bag is poor. I only used it for two nights and the grommets are already pulling out of the bag. Maybe I got a defective bag. Quality of the food bag, cords and carabiners seem good. I plan to contact the company for a replacement. I'll update the review depending on how that goes.

Had a homemade setup but got this. If you are ultralight you might want to do your own thing but if you can have a few more ounces of weight to help with convenience this is a good buy. Used 5x now, nice setup but like I said nothing really magic about it, just packaged well.

I am a beginner backpacker, and this was my first product to keep food safe from wildlife on the trail. I just tried out this product, and it was very easy to use. It is compact, and the components of the kit all appear high quality. Also, I emailed the company with a question and they were very prompt and helpful with their response.

While I really liked the overall system of using paracord and carabiners to hang the bag out of the reach of bears, the bag itself is the real failure of the entire system. Despite their claims, it is not a waterproof bag.We used this for the first time last weekend. All of our food was in the bag. The top was rolled down and clipped. We hung the bag in a tree well away from our campsite. It started raining about 5 in the morning as the remnants of a tropical storm hit the area. When we went to get the bag down in the morning, all of the food inside was wet. This should have been obvious to us as it is a basic ripstop nylon bag with no waterproofing.While hanging this bag out of reach should keep bears from your food, if they DO get hold of it, the flimsy fabric won't make it through one claw swipe!

If you're like me, when you look at what's included in this package you think "I could do that for $5". And that's true. But this was just the right amount of paracord and the little bag worked so well to hold some rocks and throw - I was really happy with the purchase. Took it into Glacier natnl park for a few nights and it hefted the enclosed bag plus two others - probably 15 pounds total - up up and away from the bears.The double-carabiner system was also really nice as a pulley set up and having some waterproof instructions was great vs. having to figure it out in the fading light as you try to get dinner ready.Efficient, packs small, does the job. I wish I could say that about all of my gear.
