Not a fan of the magic, but otherwise this was a fun read. Taita is a likeable hero

Warlock
Solid Smith tale and it does pull you along nicely. Somewhat predictable but he sets you up for hoping for it to be that way, very crafty boy is Wilbur Smith. I did like the introduction of the working of forces more along the lines of supernatural powers and understanding. He doesnt quite go Harry Potter level magic on it, just more of a new alignment with the gods and their powers. Good job.

Thus setting a epic story.Nefer is still young but has on his side the Warlock Taita, an ally that his brilliant and legendary.Things come to head in the ruins of Gallala a city of ruins, this is where Nefer will start to rebuild his kingdom. To make their dream come true, Nefer and Taita must stay one step ahead of the depraved assassin, survive the tortuous shadow of her ever-pursuing armies, and outwit the shocking betrayals of is own flesh and blood. Nefer's courage increases, and as Taita's magic grows more beguiling, so grows stronger the power of their tireless enemies.A story well worth reading, specially if you like Ancient Egypt its Pharaoh's and all the mysteries that come with it. Characters are bigger then life and their adventure is fantastic.

Wilbur Smith's Warlock
I have read almost every Wilbur Smith novel and some several times. He is by far one of the BEST non-fiction historical writers I have had the privilege to read. I was fortunate to be able to find hard copies of River God which I plan to re-read. Warlock was very good - not quite as exciting as River God...but for goodness sakes how can a person keep up that degree of intensity? The only Wilbur Smith book that has disappointed is the Quest but I am very happy to have read and completed the Egyptian series despite the lack of eBooks for the first two of the series. Anyone who has completed just one of Wilbur Smith's books will return to the next without hesitation. Thank you for many hours of entertainment and education!

Would have been better if it had been targeted at children
It’s not often I wonder why I get given a book as a gift, but as I never showed any interest in Wilbur Smith, Ancient Egypt, books that could be aimed at children (were it not so violent, maybe), or books about wizardry, I have no idea why I was given this book as a birthday present. This book sees 3 pharaohs try to unite Egypt. There are battles, boys coming of age, attempted rapes, wizards giving advice, and all round ancient battling. If you like this sort of thing, then you’ll enjoy this book, but it wasn’t for me, as it wasn’t my sort of bookMy biggest issue with the book is that it felt like he padded the run time. There were meanders that really didn’t need to be there, beyond making the book longer

Disappointing
I have read many Wlibur Smith novels over the years and as I love Egypt I thought I would give this series a try. Enjoyed River God, The Seventh Scroll was a disappointment because I expected the continuation of the story and instead got a mediocre modern day Romance /Thriller. Warlock promised to continue the ancient story so I persevered . Got fed up half way with more of the same and nothing happening. I will probably go back to it sometime as I don't like leaving books unfinished but honestly I no longer care what happens to any of the characters.

A good read
Continues the stories of Taita (an admirable character) as he becomes more and more adept at mystical powers. Wilbur Smith has the power to keep the reader enthralled, but this book does have a fair amount of fantasy. I enjoyed the book enough to go immediately to The Quest the final book of the Egyptian series. I have now read all four books one after the other (over a period of a year).......and enjoyed them all. The first two books of the series are probably the best but if you enjoyed them it is well worth reading them all. I would recommend reading them in order.

Great story telling
Today is a sad day as i read the last page on the day that Wilbur died. This book, as all the others he wrote, enchanted me, thrilled me and like the others could not put it down. I have nearly all of Wilbur books but love the Egyptian ones, he paints such a picture i can actually feel the sand between my toes reading them. God speed Wilbur.

The women are all beautiful and able to satisfy their man's desires on a ...
This is the third of the Egyptian series and takes the story of the central characters on by another generation. As is usual with Wilbur Smith, all the men are handsome, muscular, virile and in the main have the ability to cheat death when all around them are being hacked to pieces by sword and spear. The women are all beautiful and able to satisfy their man's desires on a very regular basis without getting prematurely pregnant. A typical Wilbur Smith plot with a happy ever after sort of ending but if, like me, you take it for what it is and not as a totally accurate historical tale of ancient Egyot, then you will find it a darn good read.
