Arrived as expected
It looks like a good product. Was disappointed that the cleaning rod shelf did not have numbered codes for the brushes and patch attachments like my Winchester model does. I had to trim back on the components I could place in the lower box. However, overall, I am pleased with it, especially the sturdy latch on the lid

A Box is a box is a box.
OK, Let us first look at what exactly we are getting here. A small, light weight box just to hold cleaning supplies and to put your long gun on to clean or admire the beauty of it. The box itself is thin. However, if it was 3/4 in oak all the reviews would say - this thing is to heavy and costs to much. So it is easy to tote around when you have it packed with your supplies, very nice. The Drawer is a friction fit and hard to pull out. The reason it is hard to pull out is the cheep plastic piece that holds all the brushes and what not. I tossed that and dumped what came with along with my other rods, brushes snake boar and it closed and opened just fine. The little knob on the front is small so I think I might switch that out with a old cabinet handle I have laying around.Thew gun holder deal does not fight tight but am I really going to use it that much when I clean it I take it all apart on my counter. I may use a shim or two to tighten it up. Those are going on a shelf anyway to make room on the inside for more stuff.I put in the Cleaner, oil, punch, needle nose, patches and Ballistol etc... It holds quite a bit of stuff. I think it is a good little box I wanted something to hold about everything I need and I can leave it out and it and not look at 2 or three plastic cases. I give this 4 Stars for Convenience - Looks - Price. If you want a hand carved, with gold inlay, and made of exotic wood then that is what you should go get, for the price this was right on the money.

Not that impressive
Edit: 8Dec2012 The item listed is the original. Looks like the error I commented about on 31Mar2011 was temporary. The image now shows the wooden chest.***Edit: 31Mar2011 The item previously offered - the item I ordered and received - is not the item pictured in this listing at this time. At this time, the pictures for this listing show a blister pack containing a variety of cleaning tools. What I ordered and received in February, 2011 was a wooden chest with a folding top, drawer, and stand for long-guns. Please be careful in reading other reviews from before Feb 2011 as they probably do not refer to the item pictured as of the date of this review.***This case is functional, but I don't love it, and frankly, I'd be embarrassed to give it to someone as a gift. There's not much wrong with the tools themselves. The description claims the spear-pointed jags are for .22/.270 and .30 caliber; the smaller is a .27 caliber jag that will not fit the bore of a .22 caliber rifle. The patch loops are plastic. The case is large enough for plenty of materials - one could easily fit four 12-oz aerosol cans inside, plus patches, a couple screwdrivers, takedown punches, etc.The problems are entirely with the material of the case. It is framed in hardwood and medium-density fiberboard, with cheap, veneer-grade plywood for the faces. It doesn't look too bad, but it feels exceptionally bad. The interior of the box is rough-cut - no effort was made at even sanding, let alone finishing. The handle on top is secured with an ill-fitting dowel rod. There is no mechanism to secure the drawer - it is a friction-fit, and the friction is supplied by the cheap plastic tray inside. Remove that tray, and the drawer simply slides out. A latch of some sort would be preferable. The tray holding the tools looks OK at first glance. Trying to remove the tools from the tray is problematic, as the recesses are deep enough to completely surround the tools, instead of being just deep enough to secure them. The tray is cheap plastic with some sort of velveteen finish. The long-gun supports are functional, but again, particularly low-grade, rough-cut wood. I wish they would have chosen to save the money on the elastic, buckle, and screws holding them to the lid and instead spent it on improving the rest of the box.For the price, I think they could have done a much better job on the case and tray. These are some similar-priced alternatives I'd feel better about owning or giving as gifts.Cases with gun-rests: Plano Shooters Case Plano Shooters Case With Gun Rests (X-Large) Universal gun cleaning kits (to put in the cases above): Outers 19 - Piece Universal Gun Cleaning Kit Outers Universal Rifle, Shotgun, Pistol Cleaning Kit with Brushes (Hard Case) Gunslick Pro Roll-Up Gun Cleaning Mat Universal gun cleaning kits, hardwood case: Hoppe's Bench Rest Premium Gun Cleaning Kit with Handle Universal 27-pc. Nice starter kit.
Bought this for my grandson's first gun cleaning kit. I added some items to it that were specific to the calibers / gauges of his guns. Overall a nice starter kit. The rod is solid brass and good quality for a kit of this nature. One item I didn't like was that the drawer does not have any way to keep it from coming open by itself when carrying. It's a minor thing and an easy fix to add a little lever to swing out of the way when you want to open the drawer. Also, the standards to hold the long guns are stored in the lid. Nice idea, but they take up more room inside the case when the lid is closed than I would have thought. This made it tough to store the other items since it reduced the available volume inside the case. Your storage needs may vary.

Great product and love the storage box
People need to realize that if you abuse somethign even if it is the highest quality and you are using it wrong...it will break. If you are careful then this kit should last you forever. Aluminum is not steel, but there is a reason the rods and other parts are made of aluminum so you do not scratch or scrape of chunks of the barrel or any other part of you gun...aluminum is soft and will not do damage to the gun if you are being careful....the kit comes with everything you need and i suggest getting some Gunzilla cleaning oil and lubricant bc it is environmentally friendly and less toxic odor smell....The outers kit is great just use your brain when you clean a gun and dont fly thru it and you wont break parts of this kit...after all i would rather have an aluminum bar bend or snap instead of taking out a chunk of my gun ( not only for looks but for functioning purposes since that can be very dangerous depending on where you take a chunk out of the metal on your gun at...it involves physics and I am not a physics teacher so just go watch Hickock45 on youtube if you care to learn about that.

Niffty little box
I've actually owned one of these for quite a number of years. I recently went up the mountains to do some target shooting with an old friend and brought it along as I've got cleaning solvents, oil, and a number of tools inside - just in case. He admired it and so I bought one for him as a gift. He was really stoked! This is a really great value for the money and I would recommend it to any shooting enthusiast.

Very functional, but quality lacks a bit
The first one that I received was damaged, but Amazon was quick to replace it with another unit. On the second unit that was shipped, the knob that is on the bottom drawer was loose so there was a circle of dents/scratches around the knob. As it was only a minor cosmetic issue I decided to keep the box given the fact that it's so functional. Also, not really Amazon's fault on the second unit, as the loose screw was a manufacturing issue.I love the idea of this box, and despite the scratches I'm going to keep it simply because I can't find another alternative which comes in such a handy kit. The drawer contains all the necessary cleaning tools for a variety of different guns (see below for details). What I like most about it, is the top box is about the size of a tall shoebox, so it gives you lots of space to store other items all together with the cleaning kit. You could easily fit some additional tools, rags, and cleaning fluids in the box. Plus, it has a fancy, vintage feel to it, and looks decent enough that you could store it on a shelf. The box itself converts into a stand to hold a long gun. Within the lid there are two brackets held in by an elastic clip, which you can remove and put into slots into the side of the case to make the stand. I'm not sure how well this will hold up long term as the slots are glued onto the sides of the box, and don't seem like they would withstand too much pressure. The brackets themselves have little velour covers so as not to scratch your gun, but I'd probably put a little extra protection down just to be safe as they don't seem like the highest quality fabric. The box is pine so it is very light to carry, and the carrying handle seems sturdy enough. Brackets and hinges also seem sturdy enough. The downside, and reason for the reduced stars, is that the box is not the best quality. While the pine makes it light, it also makes it very susceptible to scratching and denting. The inner panels between the frames are also very thin plywood material, and I'm sure a strong drop/hit to the side of the case could damage the panels. The tray which holds the cleaning tools is just a plastic tray with a felted finish and feels very flimsy. As mentioned, the gun stand brackets are just glued into the sides of the box right onto the thin plywood, and the elastic closure while functional feels a little flimsy as well. The cut edges are a little rough in some spots - for example, the inside of the box isn't really finished at all, and the stand brackets are not a smooth sanded finish but still a bit of a rough cut.Overall given the fact that this box is under the $60 range, it's not that bad of a value. It is functional as far as the layout/space goes, lightweight to carry, and looks nice enough on a shelf. The only downside is that they really skimped on the finishes so the overall quality is kind of flimsy. I'd be willing to buy something better quality (harder wood, nice solid tray, reinforced brackets) for a higher price if I could find something like that. If they upped the price a bit, and used that to create a stronger/sturdier box I'd give it 5 stars.I've included a picture - it's just a stock photo and not my own, but it gives you an idea of what it looks like with the gun stand out.Included in the box:3 Solid brass rods for rifles, pistols and shotguns7 Bronze brushes to fit: .22/270-cal/7mm, .30/8mm, .38-357-cal/9mm, .40-45-cal/10mm, 20/28-ga, 10/12-ga50 Cleaning patches7 Mops to fit: .22-25-cal/6-6.5mm, .270-30-cal/7-8mm, .338-35-cal, .38-357-cal/9mm, .40-45-cal/10mm, 20/28-ga, 10/12-ga2 Spear pointed jags to fit: .22/270 cal, 30-cal and larger rifles/pistols3 Slotted patch loops to fit: .22/270-cal, 30-cal and larger rifles/pistols, 10-28-ga shotguns

Good brass etc
The bits are worth the price. The box is rough...No fine woodwork here...but the rod and swabs and brushes make it more than a good bargain. You will pay double for the brass individual,,, and still have to find a place to put them. This is great value for the money...I wouldn't complain about the woodwork. Its fine enough and much better than a shoe box

OK but no super great.
It's basically as advertised but the quality isn't what it appears. Received the first one with screws missing and a crack on the top. Likely from the pivot from the two missing screws on the one side. Amazon was great in helping me facilitate a new one however it was disappointing. None the less, if you get it for a good price, well worth it.

Overpriced!
This item has a very minimal amount of cleaning tools. The wooden box was marred. The felt jackets on the gun support are very poorly made and fit horribly!! This item is available locally for half the price. Not recommended.
