An all time classic. This book can change your life.
I heard it somewhere that a difference between a writer and an author is, the author has authority over your mind. The author can make you feel things. This is a solid example of authorship. I had read this book when I was a child and I refused to bow to Lord Krishna. This author was able to show me that a god can be imperfect in a human form. I have always kept this book on my bookshelf for years and I keep purchasing it periodically to gift others. Just read it and thank me later.

Same legendary story-telling now in a portable format
I grew up listening to this story as my grandparents and parents would discuss the different nuances and point of views of how various characters felt and perceived the truth which led to the great war. In general, I like this form of storytelling where a popular narrative is re-told from a different vantage point, in this case, it was from the point of view of Karna, the eldest yet unacknowledged son of Kunti. It is an amazing story and written in rich Marathi. We need more such literature and even more readers to appreciate the richness of our vernacular languages of the Indian subcontinent.

Nicely written...
Nicely presented perspective of Suryaputra Karna, an important character in Mahabharata from History of India. This story of Mahabharata is during end of Dwaper Yuga (bronze age). These character were elevated people and were breed from gods/deities and Karna was one of top character after Krushna. Their behavior and thinking is way beyond what we can imagine and compare to today's culture.

Mesmerising...!
"The sorrows of the common people are normal, but the sorrows of the extraordinary are unusual."Mrutyunjay means a win over death. The one who has conquered the hearts of people will live forever. Just finished reading the epic novel Mrutyunjay. And here is my view of this book.Who was Karna anyway? Was he a son of Kunti or Radha? Was Karna a ruthless warrior or philanthropical kindest man? Why was he loyal to Duryodhana? Karna had the freedom of choice but then why did he choose to fight against his own brothers? Why did he knowingly swear to kill his younger brother, Arjuna? Why did he give away his Kavach-Kundal? These and many more questions have been answered brilliantly by Mrityunjaykaar (meaning the maker of the novel Mrutyunjay) Shivaji Sawant.Multiple POV narration of this novel is just outstanding. Shivaji Sawant has narrated the story from six point-of-views. Not one, not two, not three, but six. The views are of Karna himself, his biological mother Kunti, his dearest friend Duryodhana, his beloved wife Vrishali, younger brother Shon and the Yugandhar Shri Krishna. These POVs are used and interwoven intelligently. This is a tale of a misunderstood man, Karna. The man who is lost in the wilderness of the confusion of a lifetime. The man lived most of his life without knowing his true identity. Even after having immense potential, he was asked to prove himself on every single step. And on most occasions, he wasn't even given the opportunity because of his descent.Karna is a well-known character from the reputed epic Mahabharata. The writer takes us on a tremendous and thrilling journey. By the time we finish the book, we learn a lot about - Karna's life, his relationships, his escapades, his achievements, his strengths and most importantly his point of view. This novel helps us to get to know Karna up close and personal. And thanks a ton to the author Shivaji Sawant for that.He was not the son of a Suta, not the son of Kunti, not even the son of the Sun. He was a living man. He was a soldier who was ready to face any situation with determination. Shivaji Sawant untiringly works to explain the conflicts and resolves of Karna's extraordinary life. The theme of "birth vs worth" is well narrated by Mrityunjaykaar Shivaji Sawant.I would recommend this epic novel, Mrutyunjay, to everyone. If you can read the Marathi language, then undoubtedly pick up the original and authentic 'Marathi Kadambari'. For others, the translated book is available in most Indian languages and also in the English language. Mrutyunjay is a must-read for all the book lovers out there.
