Hi， It is really a good question, I have the responsibility to make it clear as a professional manufacturer. a. There is 17 levels for merv rating of filter media, G1-G4，F5-F9，H10-H14，U15-17; The G1 is the basic and U17 is the highest level. b. The bottom layer filter of IQair compact is marked F8, it means Medium Efficient(65-70)%; while the top filter is marked H12/13, it means High Efficient (H12 ≧99.9%, H13 ≧99.97%。 The merv rating under H12 CAN'T be called HEPA filter. c. It is possible to get the bottom filter/F8 with 35 dollars as we did this before for promotion without margin; if you get the top layer/H12/13 with 35 dollars, either you are the luckiest guy on the world or the filter is not qualified. d. The problem is that we can't identify the merv rating by touching, watching or smelling. But HEPA filter must reach "capturing 99.97% of particles", otherwise it can't be called HEPA filter. Pls don't hesitate to ask if any more questions.

I don’t know how long it’s supposed to last, but I have a very dusty house and I have to change all my filters more frequently.

Hi, Frankly, we will not intend to improve the size. We compared it with the OEM one, it is 1/4 inch smaller than the IQ AIR filter; however, it makes no difference for filtering, the frame in the unit covers the 1/4 gap and no air leaking from the side.
