Sturdy hand crank unit priced right
Nice manual ice crusher, just what we were looking for. Maybe not as convenient as a powered unit but this one works great and the price was right. Makes lots of ice, just turn the crank. Suction cup on the bottom makes unit very secure.

Martinis time
It’s an ice crusher. It crushes ice. Large crush and small crush according to which way you turn the handle. The device to suction the crusher to the counter works but only on smooth, glass like surfaces, not on laminate counter tops. This is not an ice shaver, don’t expect to make snow cones or pina colada’s with this ice.Time to go make some martinis.

Works well.
The ice is perfectly chopped to fit my water thermos. The suction does not work well. It loosens after 3 or 4 turns.

Comparison of four ice crushers
I bought four ice crushers, (1) the Gourmia GIC9635 Ice Shaver, (2) the Nuvantee Manual Ice Crusher - Rust-Proof Zinc Alloy Construction - Carbon Steel 430 Blade - Hand Crank Ice Grinder, (3) the Portable Hand Crank Ice Crusher by VICTORIO VKP1126, and (4) the Viski 4371 Professional Lewis Bag and Mallet. After reading all of the other reviews on the durability hand crank models, it was clear that the way to make the hand crank models last longer was to feed them smaller ice cubes, so I broke up normal ice cubes with the Viski mallet and bag first and then poured the contents of that bag into the three hand cranked models. I could tell by the low cranking resistance that any of the three hand cranked models would last longer this way, but it is time consuming. The difference between the three hand cranked models that I tested is in the fineness of the ice particles put out by the crushers. Of the three hand cranked models I tested, the ice was finest, after having run the already crushed ice back through each of the crushers 3 times, with the Gourmia. I think that this occurred because the Gourmia is actually an ice shaver. with blades running horizontally, whereas the blades in the other two operate vertically. The box that the Gourmia comes in has a photo of a drink with very finely crushed ice on the side of the box. However, aster running the ice through the Gourmia three times, I was never able to achieve a crushed ice product anywhere near as finally crushed as shown in the photo on the box. So if you're trying to make a drink such as a pina colada (as I was) with ice crushed into a fine slush like mixture, I question whether the Courmia ice crusher is the one for you.
