Schmidt Brothers Cutlery, STISL08, Titan 8 Inch Slicer

This is the second Schmidt Titan knife that I have purchased. I was impressed with the 8" chef's knife so I recently ordered this. The Titan series is the only Schmidt knives that I own or have used so my thoughts: The blade thickness seems to be accurate on both knives. It appears that the quality of the steel is excellent - sharp out of the box and wicked sharp after some tweaking and honing. So far the blade seems to hold the edge well. Not the greatest as far as weight distribution and not a heavy knife but they are a very comfortable knife to use. The only con that I can imagine is the handle material - comfortable but not sure how long it will last. Overall, you will get a knife that you will love, for pennies on the dollar compared to the top brands.

I'm a food photographer, and a "Foodie". I've had Henkels sets in the past, and a half a dozen other single knives of various brands. Look, the Schmidt knives are superbly built, stylish, and keep an edge. What more needs to be said? They are incredibly sharp out of the box, and the only concern I had was that they were *SO* nice, that I wouldn't want to pick them up and use them. I still have a junk knife for doing things that are below these wonderfully crafted knives. This set is a great value, and has every knife you would realistically need. This is going to be my go-to set as a gift for weddings.

I purchased these in 2014 and they are rusting and there is no sharpness left. It states limited lifetime warranty but when I emailed them, there was no reply. I would never purchase from this company again

If you're looking for a beautiful decoration for your kitchen counter top...look no further. If you're looking for an exceptional set of affordable knives...maybe shop around a little longerJust received these knives. They came very quick. Washed them up, ran out and grabbed an orange from the tree to see how silky smooth these bad boys would slide through it. NOPE.Every knife in the set was dull. And I mean I couldn't cut myself if I wanted to dull. Luckily it comes with a sharpener (one of the reasons I bought this set). The sharpener is nice. I've spent the last hour trying to get an edge on these blades. For the most part, I've got them to equal quality of knives I've bought from Target that are somewhat cheap. However the boning knife is useless. The initial angle beveled for the blade seems too wide for the sharpener V, so its not actually making contact with the tip and getting the knife sharp.I haven't tried the steak knives, tomato knife, or bread knife yet. I hope they work as it's impossible to sharpen the already serrated edgesLastly, the wood magnetic block is gorgeous...but it's much lighter than the picture shown in Amazon, which is disappointed as the lighter wood wasn't the look I was going forReally disappointed in these knives after all the great reviews I've read about Schmidt Bros.

Good quality set for the price. Four stars only because set has no carving fork.4/22/16 UPDATED TO 2 STAR RATINGUpdate after two years of use. Although the set looks cool, the longevity of these knives is not what one would expect for the price. The caps on the handles are really thin sheet metal soldered to a screw that screws into the handle. After about 18 months they started to internally rust and fall off. The company will not even answer emails to address this issue. The bread knife is like cutting bread with a hack saw. The steak knives act the same way sawing rather than cutting. All in all not very satisfied with this knife set purchase. We are currently browsing for a Cutco knife set to replace this set.

In starting a new venture in the culinary world, I wanted to have my own knife. Schmidt Brothers was recommended to me by some people who are career cooks/chefs and so it was one of the first names I looked for. I saw this stylish black knife and was immediately drawn to it. What a great decision it was to purchase it two months ago. I am very happy with the comfort and feel of it in my hand. It's also holding it's edge extremely well. I've used steel on it only a few times because I've only needed to do it a few times. My co workers in the kitchen also told me that they really like it as well. Very Happy!
