Great book for teaching art. Fun to do

My niece and nephew absolutely love this book! The interactive online element is perfect for kids today and it makes the reading fun!

I honestly can't believe this book doesn't have more reviews! My 7yr old daughter and I were coloring a picture together and she mentioned that I was "better" than her because I was neater and stayed inside the lines. Perfect teachable moment to let her know that art isn't always about being "neat" and I showed her some examples of Jackson Pollock's work, and we talked about how some artists use only dots to make amazing art and so she learned a little about pointillism too. Today we picked up a few art books for children at the library so we could go even deeper, and this book was among them. We haven't even made it through the entire book yet and I've already ordered a copy of our own. It's amazing! It's an age appropriate art history book for children that starts with ancient cave paintings and goes on through history explaining the different major art styles and artists/paintings. What I really love is that there are "Art Lessons" that correspond with each of the art styles encouraging the reader to make their own artwork using the same style with suggestions and tips on how to do that. The app is optional and just an added bonus. There are some art quizzes in there but the really cool part, in my opinion, is that the kids can design their own art gallery using their own artwork! There are different "rooms" in the gallery and by uploading the pictures of their art they can design 5 different viewing rooms in their virtual gallery featuring their very own artwork. As a teacher, and as a mother, as far as I'm concerned Susie Hodge did an amazing job on this book!
