I love it!
Wow! I’ve never used this quality of film and it is amazing! I actually love the way it looks. I took a leap on using this expensive film as I’ve really only used cheap Kodak or Fuji stuff. I am well pleased!

A really great film
I have shot about 20 rolls of this stuff, so this review has been long in the making. And my final word is: Kodak Portra 400 is a really great film. It's not too punchy, it's not too muted, it's very accurate reproducing colors, and has GREAT latitude. Accidentally overexposed three stops? No problem, you most likely got the shot. Set the ISO to 1600? Don't worry about it. Don't even push the film. It will be fine, with little extra grain. This stuff is EXCELLENT, and amazing for portraits! Use this film along with a low-light lens like an f/1.4, set it to f/2 or under, and underexpose a stop or two, and you will get DREAMY portraits.I give it 4.5 stars, because I wish it was just a little bit more punchy, but that is a very minor complaint (and I complain too much.) I'll just mark it with 5 stars.

All three are excellent films. It is a personal choice
Have used both new Portra 160 and 400, along with Fuji Pro 400H. All three are excellent films. It is a personal choice. For my pro work Portra 400 is my go to film. Check this site you will see how good this film is:http://www.twinlenslife.com/2010/12/its-our-favorite-time-of-light-new.htmlAs for Portra 400 vs Fuji Pro 400H, it is a personal choice; both excellent films. After extensively using both my preference is Portra 400 for my industrial work.Folks, it is the Mac vs. Windows, Chevy vs. Ford thingy. Choose the film that best produces images for your eyes and for your client. As for rating I have shot at box and +1, developed as ISO 400, results are excellent. For a test I took a roll shot at different ISO up and down the range, from ISO 100 through ISO 1600. After the pro lab, Richards Photo Lab, processed the film and did prints it was difficult to see a difference, only at the extreme ends of the ISO.

Favorite 35mm Film
I have only ever tried a few types of film but of the few, this is hands down my favorite. It’s very versatile indoors or out. The grain is subtle and beautiful. I love the color range. The tones tend to be warmer than other films which I also like. Excellent for portraits but also for just about anything else.

Kodak Portra Professional ISO 400 35mm 36exp color negative film
This and the Portra ISO 100 are my two favorite color films. The color is very accurate and great for (surprisingly!--not) portraiture, but it is also flexible and performs well in other usages. I have used it in both indoor studio settings as well as outdoors, and it seems to give great color both ways. The grain is very fine, even on the 400, and it is almost unnoticeable. I did not notice it at all while C-Printing on 11x14 paper, and only noticed it when I scanned it and tried to print it at 12x17 paper.Overall though, it's a very malleable film, and worth it compared to other brands of color film currently available, which in my experience, always fall flat.
