Wasted hours on this garbage.
I downloaded the demo, tried it out, it corrputed my hard drive in windows 7, took me hours to recover. Then I tried it on a test system, windows 7, and it repeatedly crashed during recognition. The scanning interface is slow and painful as well. The people selling this are crooks in my opinion.

VERY satisfied with the results I'm getting
This software does EXACTLY what I needed it to do. I was able to scan my sheet music, use the built in recognition, listen to it so I can hear how something is supposed to be played, save the music as a MIDI file, and then load it up in Synthesia. Sometimes I'll just have SmartScore out so I can play alongside and practice reading sheet music in the process. Other times, I'll load it up into Synthesia so I can fast track learning a new piece of music, and then come back to the fundamentals. The software can obviously do more than what I'm intending to use it for, so there's some untapped potential as well, but overall, VERY satisfied with the results I'm getting, and furthermore, how EASY it was to achieve those results. I also saved a good bit by buying the software on Amazon versus purchasing it directly from the Musitek website. WIN/WINThe software wasn't buggy, or difficult, or unreliable. I noticed that a few people here had said it crashed a lot. I didn't experience any kinds of issues of the sort. I'm running a Windows 10 x64 system, and routing audio through a Komplete Audio 6 interface from Native Instruments.

Don't buy
the scan and recognize features have not improved since I first bought this software eight years ago. Very bad. The editing is still very poorly thought out. Drag and drop and replace would be much quicker than this present system. I could go on but why bother.

Almost perfect
I was very pleased the first time I scanned my favorite song and SmartScore played it almost perfectly. However, I found the Editor NOT user friendly at all. Too may keyboard key combinations, and if you select say a quarter note, but you had selected something else previously, when you try to insert the note the other selection is still active. Selecting the note did not disabled the last selection you made. And the icons are so small it is hard to notice that something else is selected. But I would recommend this product to my musician friends.

PDF recognition needs a lot of improvement
First of all let me explain why I needed a software like Smart Score X2. I have a ton of sheet music in the form of printed material or PDF files. I needed some app which can turn pages automatically on my iPad while I practice on a piano. Unfortunately there is nothing out there which does it with pure PDF files. However, there are a ton of apps which would play Music XML (Or even Finale format and other popular formats) files. I would even control the tempo. Great! So, now, I needed something which could convert PDF files into Music XML files. That's where Smart Score comes in. The software claims to convert PDF files into a number of popular music formats. I bough the Piano Edition, thinking that it would let me do what I want. The best PDF recognition was 70% accurate with a good scan. Editing of music is actually not bad, once you get used to it. But I am not interested in editing the more than say, 10% after the recognition.Updated on Januray 24, 2016:I had some limited success with the Piano Edition, so I decided to upgrade to SmartScore X2 Professional Edition because Piano Edition did not allow me to do certain things. I am disappointed. The recognition engine is the same for both Piano Edition and the Professional Edition. It is just that I can do more things on a poorly recognized scans. I am still not happy. Take a look at the attached picture. This is a recognition from a high resolution scan. The items in purple are errors. By the way, do not pay the retail price of $300 for the professional version. It is not worth it. There are ways to get a better deal by using competitive upgrades etc.

Better accuracy and more reliable than my older Ver
Better accuracy and more reliable than my older Ver. 5. However, XML exports make the output too wide and unusable when imported into other notation programs (like Sibelius and others). I need to revert to my older version to export correctly which is really unacceptable.
