Better than you think
At $29, I took a chance on this because I can return it if it's junk. It turns out, this is the real deal. It comes from a company that manufactures microscopes for industrial purposes. This is the cheap end of their line, aimed at your average citizen. The installation is a problem. It comes with a mini CD, but the manual that it contains is identical to the printed one, so it is of no additional value. The software on the CD is not properly registered or configured, so my Dell computer with Windows 10 was unable to even open the file. It said there was a problem with the file name and labeling.I went online to the manufacturer. That was an impressive website, and they actually had customer support. I found the application software to download. Again, my security settings did not like the software, and it warned against opening it. Finally, I decided the website looked responsible and sophisticated, so I went for it. It installed fine and, so far, has not stolen or corrupted or locked files on my computer. In fact, it functions very well. Occasionally the image from the microscope locks up and I find it necessary to unplug it from the computer and plug it back in. Beyond that, it does a commendable job.I thought it had a Zoom function; it does not. Would it has is the ability to move the microscope closer or further away to change the size of the image. The focusing seems to go from about a centimeter to infinity, so the net result is a substantial zoom function. It delivers crisp and bright images. So far I have mainly played with it, looking at skin, ears, and the instructions on a different product from China that had microscopic instructions. They turned out to be what is called halftone printing, meaning it's a bunch of little pixels or dots, and when the printing is small enough each letter is composed of about a dozen dots. This microscope is going to be useful for looking at little bumps which may be seed ticks. I can also use it to look at the wax screens on my hearing aids.Overall, this is actually a usable, near-professional grade product that delivers a quality image for an unbelievably low price.

This is a great little digital microscope
This is a great little digital microscope! It comes with a cd and a mini tripod. I do not have a cd drive so I couldn't use the disc that came with it. But no issues there, I just went to their website and downloaded the program directly. Works like a charm. The program downloaded in a foreign language but all I needed to do was look on the manual that comes with it shows where to click Language, so I chose English. Easy peasy then I plugged it into my usb and Voila! I had a blast with the kiddo looking at all sorts of things like flightless fruitflies and a Praying Mantis, a pistachio, a strand of hair, a doily, a pen tip, and money. I posted a few of the pics we took. It did take me a few minutes to figure how it worked, but that is because I tend to skip reading directions. There is a little scroll wheel to adjust the LED lights. The part where you adjust the magnification is the top where the usb cable enters the scope. The little white cap does come off. Took a little bit of effort but that is good. I would rather it didn't just fall off. The program has several cool features. I haven't figured them all out yet. But I did use the recording option, worked beautifully, and it easily takes photos. I can click with a button also located by the scroll wheel or just tap the camera icon on the program. I prefer on the computer because if I touch the cord I tend to cause the photos to blur. Other than that camera worked beautifully. The resolution is not awesome. It is pretty low. But it also didn't cost a fortune either. I think I was having more fun than the younger one! I did not edit the photos. And moving subjects are really difficult to look at with a microscope. So the little fruit fly is quite blurry. He was not happy that I was holding his leg with tweezers. The Mantis was difficult to look at as well. But it is one of the reasons we bought the scope so to use it was great! I won't post the video because it is unedited and you will end up with a sever case of motion sickness as the Mantis didn't cooperate, and trying to hold the scope over a moving subject IS a challenge! lol If you like this sort of thing you will like this scope. I do not own anything other than a magnifying glass at this moment so I do not have anything to compare it to. But for my first scope I believe it was a excellent purchase.
