Highly recommend
I just started a job in geriatric psychiatry. My background experience is Family Medicine. This book is a perfect primer for anyone who may be switching careers or who simply need a reference manual in this area of practice.

Great Geriatric Psychiatry resource
This book is a great overview of topics important to Geriatric psychiatry. There is not in depth medication advice, but that's not really meant for that. Very useful.

Little big book
Concise, nicely written book that covers keytopics well. I'd recommend it to those who need the information but not the huge text.

Excellent Introduction to the Subject
I bought this book for my geriatric psychiatry rotation in a tertiary care centre. I read it cover to cover and took notes over the weekend before my rotation and this book helped me do extremely well. The book is a great, portable size and the chapters are organized in a logical and straightforward manner. Since there is no option to look inside, the following is a list of the chapters in the book:1) Successful aging and application of the BPS Model2) Geriatric psychopharmacology: clinical considerations3) Cognitive disorders: diff dx and rx4) Treating behavioural disturbances associated with dementia5) Mood disorders6) Psychosis7) Anxiety disorders8) Sleep disorders9) Somatoform disorders10) Psychotherapy with older adults11) Psychiatry in the nursing home and inpatient care12) Appendix I: Clinical assessment forms - including ex of psychiatry consult order form, previsit questionnaires, neuro exam summary, functional evaluation in dementia, health questionnaire, and BMI tables13) Appendix II: Recommended readings14) Index and ReferencesA fantastic complement to this book is: Concise guide to neuropsychiatry and behavioral neurology (although the latest second edition is a bit dated, this book, along with Geriatric Psychiatry Basics, provides a fantastic understanding and ability to formulate the wide range of presentations in geriatric psychiatry).
