It's okay, I had an awful time reading this book aloud to my kid as well. It's not just you.
Much like Where Do Diggers Sleep at Night, this book has excellent illustrations that my daughter seems to love. Unfortunately, much like Diggers, this book also inherited some of the worst cadence I've ever read. Instead of improving on the prose, the author actually managed to become laughably worse. I'm not sure if it was supposed be some sort of awkward meta joke by making the writing a train wreck, but this book is downright uncomfortable to read aloud. It took a week or two of readings before I could get Diggers to sound like it flowed. This book, my daughter will probably outgrow the book before we get there.

This is my almost two year old's favorite book at the moment
This is my almost two year old's favorite book at the moment. I catch him flipping through it by himself over a dozen times a day. Trains are his absolute favorite type of vehicle, so he much prefers this book than to the original "Where Do Diggers Sleep At Night?". This is a great book to introduce toddlers to different types of trains. It depicts a variety such as breakdown trains, fire trains, monorail, subway, etc. The writing is subpar compared to the likes of "Steam Train, Dream Train" (one of my family's absolute favorite!), but the adorable illustrations and subject matter is sure to win over the heart of every train loving toddler.

Another hit for Sayles & Slade
My 2 year old can't get enough of these books. We read them frequently. He loves the pictures. They're detailed but never busy so we have just enough detail to talk about over & over again. The text similarly has sweet poetry without being too wordy for a toddler. Reviewing for my son it gets 5 stars. It's not quite the original but they definitely have my family coming back for more. Their new one about planes comes out next month & we've confidently pre-purchased.

Great book for soon to be big brother and train lover!
Inadvertently this turned out to be a great book for those expecting a new sibling as well! It was meant for my train-obsessed 2 year old but all the pages have a ‘big train’ and ‘baby train’ pictured and my son has a great time assigning ‘mommy’, ‘daddy’ and ‘baby’ trains on each page. There is also a mouse that he has to search for on each page so it becomes a very interactive book. Very cute and longevity for entertainment.

Not as good as the original
My son likes this, but “Where do Diggers Sleep at Night” is way better. I think that’s the original book, and this is the sequel. They use some of the same words, so if you’re used to reading the other one, expect to stumble and get confused. It’s done in the exact same meter with the same illustrator as the previous. My son does like to find a little white conductor mouse on each page though!

2 year old loves it!
My son absolutely loves all of the books in this collection. This one is no exception. The illustrations are beautiful. You have to get the hang of the rhyming pattern, but when you do it's easy to catch one At first they are kinda tongue twisters. Get every book in this collection.

Was a hit with both the 2 1/2 and 5 year old grandson
I bought the "Where do trucks sleep at night"and saw this advertised on the back cover. I ordered it and received it quickly from amazon. Both books have essentially the same story, but have nice pictures of trucks and trains working their jobs in different settings. Excellent for kids who wonder about how things work.

Must read at bedtime - Bonus game of find the mouse!
This is a MUST read for my 2.5 year old son every night. All different types of trains are present in this book. For a little game after the bajillionth time he wants it read to him at night, we look for the little conductor mouse that is on each page.

Bed Time Train Rhymes
The book is beautiful aesthetically, colours and illustrations are very appropriate for the type of book it is, not to vibrant. The quality of the book it’s self is very good. Strong and sturdy board pages, high gloss finish and is approximately A5 in size.My two year old son loves trains and reading about them in a short humanising rhyming poem makes him really happy and allows a good flow of words for the reader.** For the English UK reader, there are some Americanisms (Mom etc) but I personally read it as Mum, easily done, doesn’t spoil the book at all. **

So much to discover on every page
I love these books and so does my almost 3 year old sun. So much to discover on every page and because all text rhymes it gives it almost a sounds of songs. Why I took one star off was because one book had slight damage on the edges but nothing that wouldn't occur when being handled by Toddlers so we kept the books.

Great for little vehicle enthusiasts
Lovely board book which teaches rhyming and really plays to me little ones interest in vehicles. Delivery was rather slow but the company were really proactive on their communications.

Great bedtime story
My son has this one and the digger book. Both are board books so they are durable for little fingers and not too heavy. Really good to read at bedtime to settle him down
