Rich and Deep Colors, Bright Whites, High Quality, and Super Stylish!
I really love this lamp! It's colors are rich and deep and it produces a lot of light at its brightest settings. I get complements on it all the time on the office desk. A red up light and purple or blue bottom look absolutely amazing! Never had any issues of it being unresponsive with the Hue bridge. If I could add one thing, a touch sensitive control on the base would be nice so you don't have to use a dimmer or your app to turn it on and off and switch scenes. Would be nice to see on the next version. The lamp is a bit on the pricy side, but it's worth every penny for the quality, style and use! Highly recommended!

Perfect Addition to an Existing Hue Smart Home
The lamp was a perfect addition to a house already consisting of Hue lights, and it makes a great bedside table lamp. I already had a Hue bridge (note that a bridge is a pre-requisite before buying this product), and integration into my existing smart home was a breeze. I simply plugged in the lamp, brought up the Hue app, and it discovered it right away. It was just a few more clicks to get it integrated with my existing Hue routines and with Alexa. My only annoyance is that the lamp is basically recognized as two separate light bulbs ("up" and "down"), so voice commands to Alexa can be annoying to get the whole thing to turn on and off. However, this lets me use the bottom lamp as a general reading/lighting lamp, and I can use the top lamp to indicate alerts (new email, weather, etc.). I'm definitely looking forward to using IFTTT to discover all the options that exist for the top lamp.

A Futuristic Cult Lamp is Born
Update (Feb 12 2015) Philips Customer service offered prompt, in-depth, exceptional support in response to my inquiry regarding the functionality of the Beyond Lamp. The lamps I received worked perfectly, I was under the impression that all Hue products would work exactly the same way. In short, Bloom, Iris and Light Strip are designed for mood lighting, while Beyond is designed to provide functional lighting. They are complimentary, not exact in their abilities.I wonder if future generations will work as functional and mood lights. The difference being a white diode is always on to provide enough functional work light (see Philips' comments below). The only concern I had after gaining a better understanding of how the Beyond lamp works, is the interdependence of the LEDs and the lamp fixture. These lights are designed to last for many years but once the LEDs exhaust their lifespan the lamp would merely become a decorative object. The LEDs cannot be swapped out and Philips does not service the lamps once the warranty period expires. The Beyond Lamp adds a few extra features to the Hue app. You'll notice in promotional videos for Beyond, a color slider that controls the up and down light. There are a few themes: Evening in Paris, Rainforest, Indian Summer, and Night Shift. These themes allow the controller to quickly set the mood without much thought. Another interesting aspect of the Beyond Lamp design is the way it sits. The bottom of the lamp base is smaller in diameter than the top (of the base). When room lighting is low the Beyond lamp gives off the illusion of floating an inch above the surface on which it is placed. Placing Beyond on a black table would pronounce this "alien" effect, a simple but very smart design choice.Aesthetically and functionally, Beyond is fantastic, a gift for someone who has everything, or a statement piece in a minimalist setting. Its soft, frosted, smooth glass domes, and sturdy metal base compliment most all interiors.Original review:I was very excited when I found this lamp. I imagined creating great lighting effects using the Beyond Lamp and my Bloom lights. The design is simple and beautiful but the functionality of the lamp I received under delivers. The specifications indicate the lamp is capable of producing 16 million colors, just as the Philips Bloom. The Philips Beyond Table lamp that I received does not produce cyan, green, or blue accurately.I've compared it to my Bloom lights by setting all lights (Bloom & Beyond) to the same color group. Bloom produces cyan, green, and blue accurately. When set to green, the Beyond lamp outputs a very yellow color with a slight green tinge, not vibrant, pure, bright green as does Bloom. When I set Beyond to Cyan, it doesn't even come close, instead it produces pure white light. When set it to pure blue it produces indigo. I've contacted Philips to see if there is something wrong with my Beyond lamp or if it is actually unable to produce the 16 million colors stated. If the Beyond lamp is in fact incapable of cyan, green, and blue output then I will return this lamp. It is such a great design but for $399 I had hoped it would work as well as the $79 Bloom lights. The lamp does accurately produce reds, magenta, oranges, yellow and all temperatures of white. Assuming I have a defective model, this lamp in proper working order should be excellent. However, if this is the way it works, and you'd like to set all your hue lights to the same color you'll be disappointed. I will update this review when I hear back from Philips customer service.Beyond lamp is bright but it will not light up a room. If you expect to use it as a desk lamp, and sit at an executive size desk (72" x 36") you'll need two, as one is only bright enough to illuminate half the desk. In which case you'd spend $800 on lamps, which might still not produce enough light by which to work. However, you'd have some seriously beautiful lighting effects before you. Practical? No. Novel? Beautiful? Relaxing? Inspiring? Absolutely, yes.

Mediocre at Best
I should have just bought a nicer looking table lamp an just used a Color Hue Bulb. Since there is no technical support as far as I can find from Phillips, can someone tell me how I can delete the two rooms this lamp created on it's own and I am not able to delete on my own. Phillips beyond up 1 and Phillips beyond down 1. Two rooms I don't need , I don't want and this lamp will be returned ot trashed if I can't do that. The lamp looks cool, for a few minutes, but is no big deal at all. Big mistake in purchasing this as far as I am concerned.

Small desk lamp
This is a cute lamp and it works well. I think the video and some of the pictures on the hue website are deceptive. Be sure to read the description carefully, it’s a small desk lamp, not really a normally sized table lamp. It’s small and it doesn’t project light upwards, only downwards. Not usually in many location (like the one I had intended)

Doesn't produce accurate color
For some reason it can't produce blue or green. It also makes a humming sound.

Does NOT WORK with Amazon Echo
Nice light and works well with the Hue application and other 3rd party apps. However, it DOES NOT WORK with the Amazon Echo yet. I have three other kind of Hue bulbs - the color, the lux and the bloom. All work fine with Amazon Echo. But the Echo can not discover this Beyond Lamp yet. If you note carefully on the Amazon site - as of this date - the Bloom is not listed among the supported Hue devices. So just be careful to look at the supported list of Hue devices if you want to use a Hue bulb or lamp with Amazon Echo.

Well designed
When these lamps were first introduced they were absurdly priced. As of this writing they are still extravagant but if you already own a bunch of other Hue Color devices then you already know that this line of products commands a premium. If you are still considering this lamp then you are probably interested in it because of the design. In that regard it excels as a modern and minimalist work of art. Whether or not that is worth it is up to you to decide. As far as lighting goes, be aware that this is a relatively small desk lamp and most of the light is directed downward. If you need room-filling light this is not the most suitable for that purpose.
