Atlantis RailEasy 10 in. L Multicolored Cable Cutter 5/32 in.

These cutters do cut the wire, but with a great deal of effort. They should be larger to allow for an easier cut.

JUNK. I couldn't get these to work with just my hands. I had to place one side of the handle on a piece of wood and then with all my strength and most of my weight lean on the other side. Only in this fashion could I get them to work but the cut was crap, it semi crushed the cable and strands became unwound. Any fraying of the cable and you won't be able to insert it in the connectors. Now its a trip to the horrible orange or blue store to try and find a more heavy duty set.

I purchased this cable cutter to install the rail easy cable system by Atlantis Rail. The cutters I received had red handles.The cable I was cutting was 5/32. The cutters I received were made in Japan and cut very well. Not one cut caused any of the strands to unravel and I was always able to get that blasted micro-washer over the cut end without too many issues. However, I strongly feel that this tool is at the upper limit at cutting 5/32" cable. In my opinion, a bigger tool would make things A LOT easier. I could not cut the cable with just the strength of my hands but rather, I had to put it on the deck and bear down with my weight to cut the cable. I strained so hard trying to cut the cable, I lost one contact lens! The handle just did not provide enough leverage to easily cut the cable. Maybe using this tool to cut cable would not pose a problem for someone who builds decks or uses their hands everyday but someone who does odd jobs here and there may want to look at other options (I work in an office). I don't consider myself "weak" as I try to stay in shape by lifting weights, etc...5 stars because it always cut cleanly, 1 star because as suggested by Atlantis Rail, this tool is undersized for someone who doesn't use their hands everyday.

This cutter is to small and inefficient for 5/16 cable

You need this for installing cable rails, trust me. The cable supplied by RailEasy is tough stuff. Trying to cut with anything else will result in a lot of work and frustration. I have the usual "expensive" cable cutter made for copper - No way would that cutter have worked. Even with this cutter it takes effort to cut the stainless cable. You could use a cutoff wheel, but not many people have them and probably none have air tool supply near their deck.

Cable cutter worked perfectly with the RailEasy studs and cabling.
