The perfect projector for its intended use
I am a projector nut. I use a projector connected to an Amazon Fire TV as my main television set. I have 6 projectors currently in my home. And one thing I can say for sure about projectors is, there is no all-purpose projector. You need to know what you will be using the projector for to know which one will be best for that purpose. If you are buying this in hopes that it will be a great TV replacement, for example, you will likely be disappointed unless you only watch TV at night in near-total darkness. This is not the best projector for that purpose. For many of the negative reviews here, I ask myself why you would buy a tiny battery-powered projector to use for a purpose where a larger plug-in projector would work just fine? For what this projector is, I have never seen better. With "pico" projectors, there is a juggling act between features, brightness, size, and battery life. The Asus S1 strikes the best balance, in my opinion. 200 lumens does not seem that bright on paper, but keep in mind this is a short throw projector. That means that all of those 200 lumens will be better utilized than a projector with a longer throw. It holds up well side-by-side with higher lumen output standard projectors, projecting the same size image because it can be closer to the screen. Is it the brightest pico projector available now? No. It once was, but is no longer. However, the newer, brighter projectors can only achieve 60 minutes of projection on a fully charged battery, so unless you have them constantly plugged in or are only using them for short presentations or videos, all that brightness doesn't do much good. The Asus S1 allows you to display an entire feature-length film on one battery charge, without the need for an external battery bank.I also own the similar Brookstone HDMI pocket projector, and the Asus S1 blows that out of the water. Over twice the brightness, similar battery life, MUCH better form factor and build quality. I can use the Asus in situations where the Brookstone just doesn't have the power to be effective. The Brookstone requires full darkness to use in nearly every condition. The Asus can project a decently-sized image in dimly lit conditions. That might not sound like a huge distinction, but it makes all the difference when you need it.I would say that the only drawback to the Asus S1 is that the connections and software features are now pretty outdated. It has HDMI input, which is all I will ever use (just buy an HDMI adapter for your phone or computer, they are cheap). The inclusion of MHL is interesting, but unfortunately none of the phone manufacturers bothered to adopt the feature, so it's pretty useless. The USB port is only a charging port to use the projector as a battery bank, which would be good if using an Amazon Fire Stick or something, but most current pico projectors have at least some sort of digital file input port and rudimentary media player functionality. This one does not. So just know that going in. This is an older model projector, and is definitely overdue for a newer model with media player capabilities and SD/USB input. You will need an HDMI device to use it.I love this projector. I have had my eye on it since it first came out, and it has finally fallen to a price point where I can afford it. I am currently using it to project Halloween decorations onto my front walkway (tarantulas, "AtmosFX Creepy Crawlies 2"). It is so light, I can just clip it to my rain gutter with a GoPro mount, and so small and quiet it seems like the projection is just there by magic. The brightness and quality of the image is astounding and highly effective.I will also be taking this projector with me on backpacking trips. It is so small and light, and has a long enough battery life, it will allow me and my friends to watch a movie while totally removed from any power source and without the extra weight of a battery bank. I can charge the device during the day using my solar charger. I'll also use it in my RV.

Great in low light.
Very small and portable projector. Sturdy design and displays a nice large picture in low light situations.I originally bought this projector for classroom use, and was especially interested in the 1:1 short throw spec which meant I could project a 100cm size from only 1m away from the screen. However, with brightness of only 200 lumens it would not project for students to see without the lights off.Sadly, I have not been able to use it in the classroom, but it is excellent for home use.

Others will have Projector Envy Once They See Your ASUS S1!
Pro: Size, built-in rechargeable battery (lasts up to 3 hours), built-in speaker, short-throw lens, two carrying cases, included cables, design, built-in lens cover, quiet fan, doubles as battery pack to charge phone, color reproduction, contrast.Con: No keystone adjustment, brightness could always be better, remote would be nice. This little projector never ceases to amaze me. After looking at the various micro and pico projectors that Brookstone had to offer I knew I had to get one. However, I felt disappointed with the price and lumens of the Brookstone projector and decided to start my research. After seeing what 75 lumens of brightness threw off I knew I needed something more substantial for a more pleasurable viewing experience. I looked at AAXA, LG, Brookstone, and ASUS. AAXA seemed to have the features I was looking for, but lacked in the lumen area, considering my budget. Enter the ASUS S1, the true all-in-one projector! This little baby comes packed with awesome features. First thing I noticed was the size, it easily fits in the palm of my hand (large hands) and weighs very little, considering there is a built-in battery. The build quality is next to none, no creaky little plastic pieces found here, what you have is a one piece aluminum case that looks like Jonny Ive himself designed! Following this I was surprised to find two traveling cases and a massive array of various connectors, HDMI, mini HDMI, micro usb to HDMI, whatever connector you need is included (unless you have an Apple i device). After a great unboxing, I decided, it was time to turn this baby on for the first time and start playing movies. I hooked up my tablet via HDMI and wow! Great rich colors, surprisingly bright (considering the size), great contrast, loud built-in speaker, and a quiet fan. I was impressed, now I don't want to lead anyone to believe that this projector can easily be viewed in bright light, because it cannot. You need a dimmed or dark room for the best experience. In a bright room you will have difficulty seeing the images projected and you can do one of two things, 1) Bring the projector closer to the screen you're projecting on, or 2) Watch a washed out version of whatever you chose. But, if your intentions for this are similar to mine, outdoor/camping movie nights and the occasional presentation, you are making the right choice.

Best value for your money!!!
After hours of research and deciding, I went with the Asus S1 LED projector, easily the best value for your money. It accepts any HDMI and MHL input and out puts in 480p; 1080p pico projectors are double the price but this does the job fantastically, you get the projector it self plus and HDMI, MHL and USB to mini-USB cable included. The USB port charges whatever USB device you may be using, it does not act as an input. The only downside, no tripod is included. At 200 lumens it is one of the brightest pico projectors out there. The battery life seems to last as advertised at around 3 hours, and the sound is crystal clear with the built in speaker although I use another external speaker most of the time. It is not hard to see why this has won many awards. If you are looking for a pico projector and are not worried about HD output, look no further than this.

Works best in a darkened room with a projector screen
Purchased this projector to use on the boat in the summer, coupled with laptop and/or BlackBerry PlayBook. Set it up in the boardroom when it arrived, just to try it out, and I probably made at least two other sales for ASUS when my coworkers saw it.Works best in a darkened room with a projector screen, of course. Set it up in the living room with Netflix through a BluRay player and enjoyed a few movies on a 60" wide screen, with no noticeable lack of clarity. Batteries seem to last as advertised, and am looking forward to using it this summer. All it is missing is a keystone adjustment, which is understandable for the cost; it didn't come with any adapters that I could use with my equipment but they were available through online sources at about $3 apiece.
