Quality Grappling Dummy for a Great Price!
After seeing a Fairtex Grappling Dummy online for $600 or $700 I decided to search for alternatives and came across this DEFY Grappling Dummy that appears to be a very close replica. I don’t know for sure if it is the “exact” same thing, but it is close enough for my intended purpose and for under $100 if I would take a little time and stuff it myself. No problem. The dummy arrived earlier than scheduled and I was pleasantly surprised by the quality when I opened the package. I was VERY happy that the artificial leather looks and feels great because my wife was skeptical about the quality before ordering, based on the price. So, that was my first win. She noticed a very small stitching error, but nothing to be concerned about at all. It also had a slight new artificial leather smell to it when it first arrived, but we’re at almost two weeks now and that smell is gone.I bought the 5 ft dummy for my son who is 7 years old, just under 4 ft tall and weighs just over 50 pounds. My son trains jiu jitsu 4 days a week and wants to train on the other days. So, this gives him the ability to practice certain techniques on the dummy while at home and I’ve actually already seen him attempt submissions in class that we’ve worked on here with the dummy. This is great for working technique, additional repetitions and muscle memorization. Now, full disclosure, if I had to purchase again I would probably buy the 4 ft dummy for him as the 5 ft dummy is a little heavy for him in certain situations. But, I figured he could grow into this one and it wouldn’t hurt to have to move a little extra weight around. I feel that with this 5 ft dummy it’s also easier for me to show him certain techniques. Either way, he still likes it and uses it which is the most important thing. He uses it for gi and no-gi practice. And I also may be buying a smaller version in the future anyway as I have a younger son who will probably train in the future as well. Finally, I did an online search for ideas on how to stuff a dummy and for the most part we stuffed it with old clothes, with the exception of the legs. For the legs I bought sand, put it in zip lock freezer bags and then put those bags in plastic grocery store bags in case they came open. The sand provides very good stability for the base. We used the sand below the knees only. The hands, feet and arms have their own zipper openings to insert the stuffing of your choice and we used old socks for the hands and feet as the openings are a little smaller.Overall this has been an excellent purchase. The price, product quality and service were all as advertised and I wouldn’t hesitate to buy this dummy again. I tried to hit the most important points in this review, but If anyone has any other questions about this product that I may be able to answer, please don’t hesitate, I would be happy to try to answer. To a great 2019!

Gathering dust
Difficult to fill and after spending hours doing so, not sure if or how to use it. The kneeling position pictured is misleading. As far as I can tell, the dummy can only be used in the supine (or prone) position. I've had the dummy for months now and all it's done is gather dust. Waste of time and money.

Great BJJ Training and Instructing Tool
It's important to know you must stuff it yourself. I took the stuffing out of a heavy bag I had, that I'm not currently using. I then filled it with that. It took a while, and in order to stuff the legs, I used a stick to push the stuffing down into the legs. The the only entry is through the back for the legs head and torso. You can stuff the arms and hands and feet separately.I just found a random video on the internet for stuffing heavy bags and followed that. If you use clothes, make sure and remove all the zippers and buttons, etc. Some people use sand, but I don't like that. It tends to come out, and make a mess. For training purposes though, it's top notch. I use it all the time. To train with it myself, to teach my students or to try ideas out.If you hav more time than money, this is a good option.

Flimsy shoulders
I don't understand why the shoulder would be attached to the chest by a strap. It's flimsy and there is no stability in the shoulder complex at all. See pic. Seems like a design flaw. I'll be looking for another dummy.

Poor quality and design
Dont bother buying this crap. One of its arms ripped apart with very very little use. Poor quality and design.
