Great book!
The movie the iron giant is based on this book, and our son loves watching movies and reading the books they’re based off of!

Chef’s Kiss
As someone who grew up watching the Iron Giant this is a gem. The story line is different from the book, but it helps to appreciate both stories. The art work was fantastic and matched the storyline perfectly all the way through, from beginning to end. The book is better than I thought, it is most definitely an item I would recommend for buying for yourself or to read for to children.

My most favorite film and also a great book
My most favorite film and also a great book! This book has the same spirt of the film but is very different. Don't buy this expecting it to be a remake of the film. With that being said, it is such a well written tale of a Iron Man and his quest for identity and self. I would recommend this to anyone who loves the movie, to any young man who needs to fall in love with a book, or to just about anyone who wants a quick and joyous reading experience.

great kids book
i feel like a lot of kids writers these days are kids writers because they're not good enough writers to write for adults. a lot of the art of writing is just plain absent from most children's books. ted hughes' writing is artful - he is a true craftsman with words. this story gets a little crazy, but it is so well written and so much fun to read. my 7 year old read it about 5 times in a row when we got it and made me read it, too. just fyi - the movie "the iron giant" is very, very loosely based on this book. this story is nothing like that movie.

He liked it.
I bought this book for my son, and his review follows:I am 8 years old and I think you should read this book because when I read it I felt like I was Hogarth. One of the things I liked about it was that the Iron Man gave a monster a burning surprise. I also like Hogarth because he's smart and also helpful. He comes up with a lot of ideas that are useful and he's only a kid. WOW!!!! I also like it because I felt like I was being sucked into the book and having an adventure. You should get this book for your kid because they would like it a lot. I mean it!

Beautifully illustrated book
This book is amazing! The detail and illustrations just make it come to life. For kids or adults who love the iron giant. Love it

Salute to a Giant
Hughes as an advocate for respect for the planet and its ecosystems is not, perhaps, the most popular perception of him. Time, perhaps, will show how prescient the integrity of the man and his vision.I recently was given the privilege of seeing a private exhibition relating to his enthusiasm as a fisherman and how that gave insights into his poetic vision.'Iron Man' is perhaps as prophetic as some of his poetry is perceptive and language-challenging.Keep it within the grasp of children - and in its print format....

I read this book to my 6 and 4 year old nephews. The 4-year-old lost interest almost immediately, but the 6-year-old really enjoyed it. I also read it to my adult-aged girlfriend, as practice, and we had a great time. There's some fun repetition and good opportunities for doing voices. I also appreciate that the characters are neither "good" nor "evil", but instead act according to their circumstances. The handful of illustrations are great too.

The basis of the movie
A child’s story, but a wonderful one just the same. It does beg the question, though… what price for peace?

Excelente
Un clásico. La prosa de Hughes evidencia que quién lo escribe es un poeta.

Gostoso de ler!
Já tinha visto a animação, não conhecia a origem! Um conto infantil muito bem desenvolvido. Bem curtinho!
