Perfect Book for learning basic nutrition backed by science! Healthful recipes included!
I bought this book on Kindle and read the entire thing last night. I am an MD myself and have been looking for ways to help my patients understand the role nutrition plays in their health (or lack of it.) (While many people believe that physicians do not understand nutrition, it is more the case that we do not have time in the course of a 15-20 minute visit to teach a nutrition class. It can't be done.) This book is very readable and perfect for anyone who needs some basic nutritional information and a jumpstart in eating healthfully. For those who need "proof" before they give up their junk food, there is just enough science to give a person some motivation. I read some of the more ''negative'' reviews here and am very disappointed. Everyone is at a different level in his or her path to learning about nutrition No book can be "all things to all people". Some reviewers wanted more science, some wanted more recipes. These are NOT reasons to give ''one' star to a book that is an introduction to cooking AND medicine and meant for the layperson who is just beginning his journey or needs a refresher to get back on track. Great Book! I plan on buying one for each of my staff members and Health Coaches to use for teaching purposes and to use themselves.

All the Things You've Heard About Healthy Eating - All in This One Book!
Before I got this book (as a gift), I was as lost as everyone else in the maze of information and misinformation about which foods do what for you. Now I have all that information in one place. La Puma breaks nutrition down into an understandable and readable format. What foods are the best for fighting cancer? Which have the most nutrition per bite? What vitamins are in different foods and how do you get a balance? I was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer over a year ago and have found this book to be very helpful in my new regimen for staying as healthy as I can for as long as I can. And I truly believe it has helped. I was only supposed to live for about 2 months, and I'm still going strong and feeling well after 14 months. I only wish this had been available 20 years ago. I firmly believe I could have avoided what I'm now going through. So whether you are sick or healthy, this book will help you. It's not about "exotic" foods or macrobiotics or being vegan, although there are things that will appeal to everyone on every path. It's about every day foods - with Top Ten lists for categories such as beans, grains, vegetables, fruits, herbs, etc. Each food item is described in terms of what nutrition it offers, what health issues it addresses, and other valuable categories. EASY to grasp and easy to reference when you need to. Fascinating and valuable. I strongly recommend it to everyone.

A Useful Read with Interesting Recipes
I found this book through a link from Dr. Li's work on Angiogenesis. Even though not a clinician, reading it showed a correlation between the two's approaches. The list of recommended ingredients for one's pantry includes some that may be challenging to find. The book for a non-clinician seems a bit of a challenge to comprehend, but I'm not sure you need to understand all of the nitty gritty to gain value from reading it. But the real benefit would come from a disciplined commitment to use Dr. LaPuma's eight-week regimen as a behavior changing strategy. I don't see how picking and choosing specific ideas to embrace will have much benefit in the long run.Having said that, there are a number of recipes that look really interesting. We're looking forward to experimenting with them when we're in a position to do so. Many of his suggestions for preparing meals quickly using off-the-shelf products are also attractive. If you subscribe to the theory that any improvement is an improvement, I believe it would be possible to get value from a casual study of Dr. LaPuma's approach. Nevertheless, I suspect that real value will come a full blown immersion into it. It's worth checking out.

Fast recipes that work
I am a fairly good home cook and have generally abstained from "fast" or "light" cookbooks because, frankly, the recipes have consistently been BAD. It doesn't matter how light or fast the recipe is if you're not going to use it more than once. It is also just simply discouraging when what was supposed to be a quick meal turns into a failure. The thing this book has going for it is that the recipes are both fast and have surprisingly complex flavors for the minimal effort involved. Are they my absolute favorite recipes of al time? No. Frankly, it's a bit unfair to ask food prepared on a clock (by a home cook) to be the epitome of home cooking. But, on the nights that the simplest option seems to be to walk down to the pub or order in, I have successfully replaced restaurant food with some of these dishes. The level of satisfaction has been high and the calories have been low. This book is helping fill in the gaps and get us eating more at home on days when we're already stressed out.

Gostei bastante.
