It is solid aluminum I believe. Heavy built. Commercial. I have seen 304 stainless rust, but not 316 stainless. I have NEVER seen Aluminum rust. But, it's worked fine for us for the past two years. :-)

they spin but have an off center spool. I do not recommend this product as the pins broke within two months.

Q: How do I get a new tool to unlock mechanism?

There are 2 ways 1) buy a tool from online store or from Bobrick 2) Use a big size of paper straight up the open end and poke into the unlock roller hole. For me I prefer the second method. Good luck
