This book of poetry is like going into a beat poetry reading in the comfort of your reading chair. Willie Perdomo's poems come alive with music, always, but particularly in this collection. The result is pure magic. An excellent book to teach and an even better one to savor.

This is my favorite poetry book in a long time. I went to the launch, then read and re-read the book, and I think Willie belongs in the ranks of poets (Ginsburg, Whitman, Villon) whose work is equally fine orally and on the page. The mighty zest of this book suits its subject, old-timey Latino music, and the complexity (multiple narrators, time jumps, depth of ideas) is worn with lightness and elegance. Readers who enjoy a blend of substance and fun should not miss "Shorty Bon Bon."
