Whalen 5-Shelf Heavy Duty Steel Shelving Unit, 48" W x 24" D x 72" H, Black

I liked this so much, I’ve reordered a few more. I use them in the garage. While I had to baby other shelves, I can place whatever I want on these and don’t have to worry. They are very sturdy and stay flush with the wall when fully packed with heavy boxes. (My other shelves would bow out with half the weight). Although they are a little pricy compared to others, I feel they are quite reasonable considering they are so strong. Another thing I like about them is that they look good and they look solid. The directions were easy to follow too. I couldn’t be more pleased with my purchase. : )

These shelves are wonderful! They are very sturdy and look nice and neat. My only caution is that the instructions are not great. The illustrations are small, so if you are not a mechanically inclined person, make sure you have a handy friend. I did, so it was no problem. He put them together very, very easily. Putting these together is a two-person job. Be aware of this, and plan for it. These shelves are definitely worth the effort!

I sure wish I'd opened the box when it arrived. But I had many other things to do to open the space up where I wanted to put these shelf units. The claim is that each shelf holds "up to 650 lbs". Imagine my surprise when I got into the package and found that the shelves are plastic covered 3/8" OSB. I know this because the corner of one of the shelves was busted by an impact that was not rough enough to damage the cardboard box. The metal parts are *very* thin guage steel. I wouldn't trust one of these shelving units to carry 200 lb total, much less 650.

This would be an instant 5 star review but every time I order these - they are damaged during shipping.Ignoring the dents/scrapes - great design, very strong and sturdy and very easy to assemble.I use it to support over 250lbs per shelf.

Purchased from third-party seller Ever Retail. Units were shipped in their original boxes, whose ends came open during shipping. 5 of 6 ordered units arrived with all their components, but 1 was missing two of the constructing beams. All units also had significant cosmetic damage, and many of the beams were lightly warped. I suspect that the original packaging was done under the assumption that they'd be moved in freight pallets directly to stores, not shipped individually. The interior padding material was very thin foam, and it was absolutely shredded on arrival in all 6 units.I contacted the seller, who's customer service was only provided by Amazon's automated assistant, which informed me that no replacement parts could be sent. I could have returned the unit missing parts, but, the time and effort required to disassemble and return ship a 100lb shelf is substantial. Thankfully, Whalen customer support was able to send replacements for the two missing beams. The scuffs are not a big deal after assembly (being pretty industrial-looking shelves), and I was able to correct the warped beams with a pair of vice grips and a great deal of prying with a screwdriver.The shelves themselves are great once assembled -- but I'd be ready for a project if you order them here. A more careful seller might adequately secure the ends of the original boxes to avoid losing parts, but, I wouldn't count on anyone actually putting them into an even larger cardboard box, and securely packing it, as would be required to ship without risking the scratches and warping my units experienced.

I have 3 of these shelves. The first two I bought from Home Depot. They were out of stock when I wanted to buy a third, so I found this one on Amazon. It is exactly the same as the ones from Home Depot which I was so happy about! The shelves are sturdy and a great value. I assembled them by myself with ease (5’3 135 pound female). Super happy with this purchase!

Really nice for storage.

Pictures may deceive you that this is a nice durable and at the same time beautiful shelf. In really it is a standard commercial $100 shelf from costco ( exactly the one from there). The shelf packing is not suitable for shipping so all corners get damaged during shipping, the shelves are pretty weak.
