GERSON9.5-Inch Red Metal 15 LED Hurricane Lantern with Dimmer Switch

It's cute and looks nice as a decoration, but it doesn't function well. We purchased it for our son's nursery to use when we changed his diapers at night and eventually had to stop because it was burning through the batteries a bit too quick. But it does look great in a camping style room!

I decided to wait a few weeks before reviewing this product so I could properly detail my experience with it. I am using the lanterns in an outdoor non-mobile 19 foot camper/RV. I ordered 2 of the Gerson 9-inch Red metal 15 LED Hurricane lanterns via Amazon Prime and they were delivered in 2 days as promised. They were shipped in an Amazon box. Inside the box the lanterns were in smaller rectangle boxes. Inside those boxes, the lanterns were shrink wrapped with a netting wrap around the glass portion. The lanterns did NOT include batteries as mentioned in the listing... but I had also ordered the AmazonBasics D Cell Everyday Alkaline Batteries as a back-up, so I was not entirely disappointed. The lanterns are metal, and they do look exactly like the standard inexpensive oil lanterns sold in big box stores. The hurricane portion is glass. The LED lights are at the bottom of the hurricane and there is a reflective portion at the top of the lantern that helps to disperse the light. Batteries are loaded through the bottom, there is a click latch that opens and the battery cover comes completely off. After the batteries are loaded, the cover clicks back into place- the cover does bow out slightly when the batteries are loaded. This is visible if you hang the lantern and are standing beneath it (I have my lanterns hanging from the ceiling of our camper/RV). The cover does, however, click securely into place and I haven't experienced it falling open and the batteries falling out... even after bumping into the lantern several times. The light switch is on the front (in a standard oil lantern this is the switch that would control the length of the wick and size of the flame). To turn on, you simply turn the switch clockwise. It is a dimmable lantern, so the further you turn the switch to the right, the brighter the light gets. To turn off, or to dim, simply turn counterclockwise. The light these lanterns put off is not very significant- I would say it is about the same as a standard 15 watt incandescent bulb. It is not a soft LED light- it is a standard blue tint LED glow. I use 2 of these lanterns in my camper/RV and it is perfect for that use- just enough light to light the entire camper, but not so much light that you are blinded when you walk back outside into the dark. So far, after several weeks of use, the lanterns are still working perfectly and we are still using the first set of batteries. The color, style and functionality of the lanterns perfectly complements our little camper/RV. They were exactly what I was looking for and I receive many complements on them. The price on Amazon is incredible- definitely worth the price paid.That said, if you are looking for a very bright lantern for outdoor use while camping- this may not suit your needs. I cannot see that this lantern would tolerate the elements very well. As mentioned earlier, the battery cover does bow a little, so I'm sure water would compromise its integrity. Additionally, other reviewers have mentioned that bugs can get inside the glass. I have not experienced this inside my camper... but then again I take care not to let many bugs inside. Also, compared to my other name brand outdoor lanterns, this one does not put off nearly as much light. I would definitely only recommend this lantern for screened in and covered areas or indoors.

I actually purchased this for a photography prop and haven’t actually put batteries in it yet (I edited the glow into it in this photo) but I LOVE it. It’s so adorable and vintage looking.

Took them camping and they worked great.

I remodeled a guest room into a cabin look for our grandsons when the visit. I looked in local stores for a lantern with no luck. I found this one on Amazon and purchased it immediately. I never looked at the features as it was solely for atmosphere. It is a very good LED light. Our grandsons love it!It lights up well. I used it once when our power went out for a short time and came in very handy. The LED’s are on the bottom and reflect to the shiny metal piece above.

This is a really cute lantern. I think the one thing I was expecting it to do is to shine outward a little better. Like if I am trying to see something on the shelf in the shed with this lantern, it doesn't do a great job of that. But I originally bought it to leave on an outside table by my front door to use for illuminating the door knob when coming home after dark and needing to see to put the key in. I do use it for that, but you kind of have to put the light lower than the door knob in order to get the light to hit it. It is pretty bright. It's just that the light comes from the bottom and shines upwards and then reflects down. Still I do like it.

Gives nice light. On full brightness would give adequate light to a bedroom or kitchen. I bought it for power outages, but would work nicely for camping. Am considering buying one or two more. Light weight.Would be nice addition as accent for a country style home or room.Very happy with purchase!

It’s very cute, a little smaller than I expected but for the price it’s wonderful. The lights are bright white, not warm. You will need 2, D batteries.

For the price, these are amazing. Fit in with my patio decor perfectly and the brightness is amazing. They don't come with batteries so make sure to buy some

The product was just as described and perfectly fine. However, I was interested in an oil lamp rather than LED and when I went to return, the cost of returning was almost as much as what I paid for the lamp. My mistake for not reading more closely and not realizing returns were not free.

I bought this for my son to use in his fort, he absolutely loves it! I am going to buy another one for my other son to put in his room as well. I think it would be great in case of the power going out. The only downer is that it takes 2 big D batteries, I am a bit surprised about that.

Found this to be poorly made, the flap where the batteries go will not stay closed. The clear piece of glass is very foggy and does not give off a clear light.
