Hiking Atlanta's Hidden Forests: Intown and Out

Even better than expected.
This product makes a wonderful gift for those new to Atlanta as well as those that have been in the city for awhile. I gave this book as a gift to my girlfriend who is fairly new to the city and very much a city dweller. The hikes in this book are rarely strenuous and are fairly easy to find once you know were to look. There are quite a few in this book that I would qualify as hidden gems. The hikes offer a brief respite from the hustle and bustle of the city and have the ability to make you feel as if you are truly in a world of your own. Although you could look on the internet and find a few of these hikes, it is much easier to have them in one resource and easily categorized for your use. The author also provides you with interesting details about each hike. Before you begin you are aware of the route of the hike, its difficulty, as well as interesting points to see during your hike. It really is a worthwhile text that has brought many hours of pleasure.

A great book for finding new trails near Atlanta
I really like this book. I'm a relatively experienced hiker. Before reading this I hiked mostly on trails a long drive from Atlanta. The few trails that I knew that are close to the city were becoming boring to me. Hiking Atlanta's Hidden Forests introduced me to some really good new trails that are close to the city. The descriptions are helpful and I like that he points out notable trees. I also like that the author describes the trail and its details well enough to choose a hike. He provides suggested routes (some of the trails are more like trail systems) with directions that are not always easy to follow, but I don't mind exploring so sometimes I make my own route. The only gripe I have with the book is the order of the trails. It jumps back and forth between neighborhoods. For example there are several trails in Decatur in a row, then some in a different neighborhood, and then more back in Decatur.

Must-own for any Atlantan
This is the single best, most useful Atlanta-specific book I own. It offers detailed descriptions of dozens and dozens of wonderful hikes, all within a short drive of the city, including pictures, directions for transt and driving, and GPS coordinates for parking, My husband and I have lived in Atlanta all our lives, but dozens of the hikes in the book were brand new to us, including the amazing Constitution Lakes trail just a couple miles from our house. Others we knew about or had hiked before, but felt like brand new experiences with the benefit of the book's information on the unique trees and wildlife that can be found along the way. Just this weekend we went to South Peachtree Creek Trail and Atlanta Memorial Park, and we are eagerly looking forward to the next weekend on which we will have a few hours to spare. This book has made a real positive impact on our lives.

Very complete and well done
I am a big local hiker in Atlanta and have several local books but this is by far the best hiking book for Atlanta area. Love the tree info, a big bonus!

Can’t say enough about how great this book is
Can’t say enough about how great this book is. We moved to ATL from east TN and we desperately missed the great outdoors... until a friend recommended this book! Plenty of trails to visit for the whole day... just an afternoon... or even an hour. So easy to navigate, easy to find, easy to reference. Definitely a must have for any outdoorsman in the city of Atlanta!!!

My son loved this book
I gave this book to my son for Christmas and he loved it. A frequent walker and hiker around Atlanta, he said the book had many trails he didn't know about.

I have found some great trails within a couple miles of my house
I have found some great trails within a couple miles of my house. The author gives lots of useful information such as why you should see the trail, how to get to the locations, parking, hiking distance & difficulty, terrain, hours, facilities, whether dogs are permitted and much more. I love his descriptions of interesting trees, historical structures and other sites not to miss.

FANTASTIC
Thanks for putting this together. We are working our way down the list. I have lived in or near Atlanta for all of my (almost) 30 years and am glad to find some new weekend hike ideas. Great book with some known and some unknown trails. My husband the forester especially likes the specimen tree notes.
