I was a little skeptical at first..But sturdy product at good price.
I intially was reviewing various travel hammocks to compliment the car harness / zip line I was using for my recently adopted box-rottie mix. I live alone and therefore (in an effort to minimize how much time she had to spend alone) tend to take her with me everywhere I possibly can. I knew riding in the car so much had to mean that she was both safe and comfortable. (and I'm sorry, I know of very few rescues that enjoy being in their crate; while I know crating a dog is probably the safest way to transport them it simply wasn't an option)I chose the Kurgo zip line and it was working well, she actually seemed to like it herself as it gave her more security in knowing she won't fly off the seat as easily. (She's quite the little fraidy cat when it comes to getting hurt...) I intially had been driving with the seats in the back folded down in my SUV which gave her plenty of room to move around, look out the various windows, etc. but I knew it wasn't safe and wouldn't work long term.I tried to the Kurgo harness and zip line with the seats folded down, but because my HHR does not have standard car handles on the side I had to clip the zip line to the hooks in back which therefore meant it was quite easy for her to get tangled up in them. Finally after some struggle I decided to look at seat extenders...which led me to the hammocks. I reviewed all of the hammocks on the market in this mid-tier price range and below. I noticed that there were some that were over $100 (not really sure why, to be honest) and I skipped those entirely, but spent a while looking at everything else.I was actually going to go with the Kurgo hammock, except it was a bit more pricey than this one and surprisingly had a decent amount of negative reviews. I held back my cheapness and refrained from buying the really cheap ones, too, as a lot of people complained that they were TOO cheap, ripped easily, didn't work, and many of them seem to have a bad plasticy smell coming off of them as well. When I first received the hammock I was dubious, to say the least. I wasn't impressed with the packaging or instructions (or lack thereof) and intially it looked like I had pretty much gotten ripped off. I set it up and to my dismay when my dog tried to walk on it or move on it all I could hear was the sound of a camping tarp underneath her! I started to think for $5 I could have made my own "hammock" otu of this material! Now that I have had it a while (and thrown a blanket on the bottom so it's not siippery and gives a little bit of comfort to the dog) I couldn't imagine not having it! I can tell Jenna loves it too - it allows her to freedom to sit, lay, even sit backwards (to look otu the rear view) without worrying about slipping off of the seat.It allows me to retain more space in the back of my suv (I have my cargo area back!) and I can now load stuff underneath it if I want to on the actual floor of the car underneath the tarp. When I was first hooking it up I was a bit dubious about it really holding her weight or staying in place - the directions (which were simple enough) tell you to pop this piece in the crack of the seat until you hear a "pop" of it going into place. The first time I did it I didn't actually hear one side "pop" but it SEEMED to be okay, and the other side was fine as well. Of course within two car rides it had come loose (which meant the tarp wasn't as stable, particularly when the dog was jumping out or into the car) so I had to go back and redo that one side.I was happy to find that it was ONLY that one side that came undone (not like the whole thing started coming undone) and this time I really "popped" it in there until I heard that satisfying popping noise.Ever since then it has been completely stable; just this morning as I got into the car (alone) I thought to myself how this was one product for the dog that was well worth the money! On a side note, a few more positive things about it that orginally led to my decision to purchase this one in particular and have held true for me - the tarp thing has a zipper in the middle so you can un-do one side easily if you have rear passengers. The time did come where I had someone stop by my house and I needed to give them a ride home, and i twas very simple to unzip the one side for them so they could sit there without undoing everything.(Of course if yours is realyl dirty or muddy or furry you might want to take it out completely or throw something over it, but this was not the case with mine)Also, it might sound like a small thing but it's quite helpful (and something the more expensive ones were missing) They put a little zip tie thing that hooks around the zipper to keep it zipped up even if there is pressure applied to middle of the tarp. The zipper might go down a little as it's not completely tight but it doesn't matter; it's only a tiny little bit and it means that it will hold it's shape and stay together even if you have a large dog bouncing around back there (or drunk human, whatever)Especially after having someone back there I could see how this small feature makes a HUGE difference with someone being satisfied with their car hammock.Overall, this is great product at a good price - this in conjunction with a car harness (and zip line, in my case) means your pet can travel safely without relinquishing the aspects of the car ride that make it FUN for your pet. Now if I could only get a car that actually has passenger handles on it so I can hook the zip line up properly....

Versatile protection for your backseat
This is quite the versatile dog resistant seat cover! The initial setting up of all of the loops that go around the head rests takes a bit of time to get it just right but after that it really quick and easy to put on or take off the hammock. I have even just taken off one side and folded it over so that a human could ride in the back seat and not be covered in fur. I also like that it helps to protect my furry children from falling to the floor if I need to brake more quickly than usual. I know it's listed as water resistant and I haven't tested yet with sopping wet-just came out of the ocean-after swimming-dogs but it has done a really nice job protecting from super muddy-running through puddles-dogs.The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is because there is not complete protection of the original auto upholstery. The top part of the back and the sides of the seats are exposed and can get dirty. I ended up buying a cheap full coverage seat cover that I put on first and then use the hammock on top to take most of the abuse. At first I tried to use only the hammock and just pull the sides down and the back up but the underside of the fabric is kind of slick and it moved around.

Easy to install and keeps the seat clean
I have an English Bulldog that sheds and drools a bit. I bought the pet hammock to keep the back seat clean and to keep her on the seat instead of falling between the rear and front seats. The pet hammock is easy to install and keeps my dog's hair off the truck. My dog is crafty and is still able to climb between the two front seats to get to the front when determined, however, she is fine hanging out in the back seat on the pet hammock. The material is decent strength, I don't foresee any issues with it getting damaged in the future. I read reviews on a lot of pet seat covers and smell was one of the complaints I often read. Thankfully, when I pulled this pet hammock out of the wrapping, there was no smell. I leave it in the truck. When I need to use the back of the truck, I unhook the straps from the front seats and strap them to the back seats. It works great. When Zoey is on the pet hammock, the pet hammock stays in place. I have cloth seats in my truck. The pet hammock covers the entire rear seat. The only thing I don't like about it is the seat belt holes. I wish the manufacturer made a method to close the seat belt holes. I might sew velcro on the underside of the pet hammock and velcro a patch into place to close the seat belt holes.

Effective but slippery
My dog is a 77 lbs chow who loves to ride the car but wants to keep walking from one window to the other. I used to have to call out "stop" or "go" to give her a chance to balance herself for the change in the car speed when stopping or taking off from stop lights or stop signs or she would end up in the well in front of the rear seat which could hurt her. This hammock seat cover takes care of this problem so it is very effective for that purpose. But, unfortunately, it is made of a slippery material that makes it difficult for her to walk around on the back seat. I like the concept of the hammock but will need to purchase one that will be made of a material that is not slippery. This one I purchased will be a perfect one if you have to transport a wet dog. Or for a dog that will just sit in one place. I have tried to tie her into seatbelt but she is very unhappy about that and gets tied up into that which takes all the fun out of driving for both of us. But I will purchase another hammock type seat cover.
