Things Your Dog Doesn't Want You to Know: Eleven Courageous Canines Tell All

Rather disappointed with this book--
Beware if you are reading this review--it contains spoilers!I am disappointed in this book, not because it wasn't good, because it was; it just wasn't what I was expecting or wanting to read. I was looking for something funny and upbeat celebrating dogs and their winsome ways. Well, I got that, because parts of it were very amusing. But I also got the flip side, the downside of loving dogs. I'm not a big fan of dog books, because the book usually ends with the dogs' death. Did this one, presented as a fun book, have to do that too? (Besides this end story, there's another from this same dog titled "I'm Getting Too Far Ahead" that should come with a tissue warning.) As a 62-yr-old dog lover, I've loved and lost countless dogs, but I didn't want to read about that. I wanted something uplifting and cheerful. Also, the situations surrounding several of the dogs was just not funny to me as a dog lover! Sarge, a German Shepherd's story starts out amusing, but it quickly loses its' amusement as the dog gets passed from owner to owner, ending up in an animal shelter. Tinkerbell, a Chihuahua, has an owner that regards her as a fashion accessory. Moonbeam's owner is a New Age follower who doesn't care what a dog needs to be happy, or what the dog should eat to be healthy, she's a vegan. Rufus T. is a Bloodhound that nobody cares about much. These types of situations are not funny to me.I struggled over what rating I should give. I finally gave it a 4 star rating, because it was a good read, if you don't think about things that should bother any dog lover. For me personally, I would have to rate it a 3.

A great collection of "tales" by some unique authors.
Great fun; my grandsons & I laughed out loud at several of the canines' "essays". Charlie, Rufus & Moonbeam are our favorite storytellers, but they all have unique writing styles and provide us with a great take on life as it applies to each of them as individuals and their place in their human's daily routines. It has become a "coffee table" book because they(and me) like re-reading many of their escapades.

Not great
I expected more from this book. The stories just weren't that funny or insightful. It is cute the way it is put together with the illustrations and photos, but the text, which is given from the dogspoint of view just didn't do it for me.

THE Book for This Season...
This is a totally adorable book for all dog lovers. Each of the canine personalities come across strong and true-- YOU KNOW THESE DOGS! Buy it for Mother's Day, for Father's Day and as a gift for everyone you visit this spring and summer. In fact you ought to get a few copies for yourself because this is the book you will want to give to all your friends... and the book that will mysteriously disappear from your guest room!

This book is HILARIOUS!
I got this book as a gift, and I loved it so much that I bought it for a friend as a gift. Before my dog passed away, I loved to read her the stories while she was wrapped in a towel on my lap after a bath. Highly recommend!

Must read to be aware of the dog mind
This book caught my eye because of the two Bostons on the cover. I have a Boston, and even though he is a liver and white, the dog on the left reminds me of him. Plus we all need to know what our dogs don't want us to know. It's the only way to keep control of the household. (NOT!) Very funny and highly recommended.

One of my favorite books. Guaranteed to bring a smile to your face!
I stumbled across this book in a waiting room. I laughed out loud reading through it. I had to purchase one of my own. My son and I read this together at breakfast. Delightful, funny. If you have dogs, you can relate with these vignettes. Great to own or give as a gift to fellow dog lovers. Also great in waiting rooms!

The author has a great sense of humor which makes the book delightful
Required reading material for dog owners who think they know their pet. My wife and I are taking turns reading the snip-its to each other and don't want to put the book down. The author has a great sense of humor which makes the book delightful, yet informative. Get one; you will be glad you did.
