means the paper that filters it has micro holes in it to let the oil go thru. Usually they put a number on it to tell you how many micros it is. Wix is the best filter I ever used.

This answer will leave most unsatisfied but really, I think they are probably roughly equivalent. I have read articles and watched video filter autopsies until I am blue. There may be some bad filters out there but frankly, for most of our purposes, name brand filters like WIX, Motorcraft, Fram, Mobil 1, Royal Purple (Almost said Deep Purple), AC Delco, K&N and probably a number of others I am forgetting are worth using. I've used all of these and been pleased. For more definitive replies, consider using Google or you Tube for "oil filter autopsies."
