Extreme yoga with chair prop... not for gentle, beginner, or senior
This book isn't so much for people trying to find senior and beginner friendly poses; it's for people wanting to do hard core Iyengar yoga with props. If I'd looked closer at the pictures on the front cover, I'd have noticed, perhaps, the one with the guy doing a headstand with one foot on a chair. Why a chair for that, I have no idea. He might as well use a wall. There's one in the book, believe it or not, of a woman doing forward fold while standing on a chair. Really? I wanted a book for poses for people who may have limited mobility. In other words, people who need to sit in a chair rather than getting up and down from the floor for an hour or so. This book is definitely not going to help with that.

Excellent Chair Yoga Guide
Very thorough book on all the various uses of a chair for assisting with yoga asanas. I've been doing yoga for years but am new to using a chair for a prop. This book amazes me with all the different ways the chair can be used. I don't feel it's a book for someone who is just starting yoga or has not been practicing for very long. Not a book for an amateur yogi but a good book for an intermediate to advanced yogi who wants to learn how to use the chair during their practice. Black and white photos throughout the book clearly demonstrate each pose. This book is a valuable reference guide and asset to my yoga book library. There really are not many chair yoga books out there. This one is by far the best. However, if you are a total beginner, you may want to check out 'All I Need is This Chair Yoga' by Wilma Carter. She eases you into a chair yoga practice very gently and is geared for those who might not be so flexible or strong. It's a good book but THIS book 'A Chair for Yoga' is a must have for any dedicated/regular practicing yogi (or yogini, whatever you prefer)

Accessibility made simple and so much fun !
This was first book in my library of Eyal's chair books. Get ready to experience many"AHAA moments" of accomplishment and pure fun !!..,You will want to purchase every one of his books as each one is better than the next. His illustrations and narratives are likened to having a teacher in the practice space with you. Balance and alignment are facilitated with the support of the chair.. " I can't do this..quickly becomes " Yes, I can "!!! This is especially important during " Covid quarantine "when we don't have access to a studio .They are compliments to my Zoom classes , a detail refresher...and I have been practicing for over 25 years!!! Do NOT hesitate to buy this and ALL his books as they will journey with you into a more accessible & meaningful practice.

Brilliant
Not a beginner book. If you are at that point in yoga where you want to visualize your lower ribs free of the pelvis, or connected to the lower abs, depending on the posture, or if you want to understand freeing the legs from the pelvis, this book is for you. If you are a dancer and are looking at these poses in relation to what you know about ribs, these postures may, in certain cases, appear excessive (flared ribs?), but remember that they are moving and flexing, and contracting, as you move -- different from ballet -- I find the poses to be glorious. You want traction, relief, stabilization, support. Get it here. Of course, beginners should start with very gentle Iyengar for the concepts.

not just for beginners
I actually purchased this book for use in instructing beginners, elderly, and less flexible and strong people...while it does have some poses for that demographic, it has advanced asanas for the intermediate yogi who has challenges getting into the more advanced poses. I purchased the specific Iyengar chairs in order to practice some of these advanced poses for myself... Chairs arrive tomorrow,.will update this when I have tried some of the poses with the chairs. Great Ideas ...spurs the imagination as to how to improve and use props to get into the more advanced asanas.

Great Book for Supported Poses
Great book. Easy to follow instructions, informative photos, and even a nice section at the end showing an older yogi doing restorative and easy poses. Many poses are shown and many variations appropriate to beginner, intermediate, or advanced. The models are advanced yogis ... but they don't intimidate you with impossible-to-achieve perfection. There is something down-to-earth about this book which is lacking in more "slick & pretty" yoga books. This book has heart and soul. It captures the Iyengar spirit and remains true to its Iyengar roots. Yes, some of the poses are a bit over-the-top silly ... like they were trying to imagine every pose possible with a chair ... but the chair assists for supported back bends and twists are hugely beneficial - especially if you are re-habbing an injury. My only complaint is that the asana names are only given in sanskrit - no english translation. But this is a small flaw in an otherwise helpful and user-friendly book

Complicated thorough and advanced.
This book seems to be for the advanced chair yoga practitioner. There are very many intriguing advanced poses that those who take chair yoga at the senior center, church, or yoga studio would not be able to move into. I bought it thinking it would help me understand what I am learning and doing at my local yoga studio. Whew, this book is way over my head and I've been doing yoga for a while over the years. To do what the author shows you will also need to buy more yoga props and a special yoga chair. This book is probably best for chair yoga teachers and other more advance yoga student.

A Chair for Yoga is a wonderful book. It is really helps with all of the Iyengar poses. My yoga is primarily Iyengar and Eyal Shifroni's shows how to go into these poses safely and without any injury. This is my number one reason I love Iyengar yoga. To this date I have never had an injury. I am very happy to have this for my continued practice. The photos with an explanation of each pose give the details to go into the poses even if you are new to Iyengar. Great book.

Fantastic use of yoga chair
Firstly, this is not what many people would understand by "chair yoga". It's not primarily designed for those with infirmities which prevent them doing many of the poses, although it could be useful for a teacher to find ways of adapting the asanas. Instead, Dr Shifroni teaches how to use a yoga chair to work on weak areas, to isolate certain factors of the pose or to enable the pose to be performed with more accurate alignment. This book is most useful for those who already have some experience of Iyengar yoga. It contains many more uses of the yoga chair as a prop than do Dr. Shifroni's other books on props for yoga. It is a wonderful resource and well worth the money.

A good addition to Iyengar yoga practice
My teacher sometimes introduces the chair into his Iyengar class but I came to need it much more after having a knee operation. This meant I was able to continue to do the whole class and to do my own practice by using this chair for the supported version of each astanga. Now I’ve gone back to using it occasionally and using the chair is a good reminder of the disciplines and helps with stillness and staying longer in the poses. The book is very clear and easy to follow.

A fantastic reference book for those who practise Iyengar yoga
This is a great book for those who practise Iyengar yoga and want to get the most out of using an Iyengar style chair in their home practice. Don't expect shiny, glossy pages like a book published by the likes of Dorling Kindersley. However, the information between the front and back covers is second to none.
