Nice to Revisit Familiar Characters
THE STORY: Carlie Blair is in trouble. Someone seems determined to kidnap and/or kill her. She works for a small town police department and either her job or her father's mysterious past may be at the root of the attacks on her. Carlie has another problem and his name is Carson. Carson is a mercenary who after being betrayed by his wife is determined to spend the rest of his life alone. Carlie and Carson have an attraction but everyone in town knows that the man who never intends to commit and the woman with old fashioned values are not a good fit.OPINION: I was interested in this story and the characters although I didn't feel that there was enough to distinguish it from similar Palmer books. The mystery of what was threatening Carlie was interesting, but there were some parts that were too incredible to be believed. Despite this, I liked how Carson and Carlie had a relationship that was not based on physical attraction alone. This is the kind of book that is adequate for a one time read but doesn't have staying power that makes a reader think of the characters or story and want to return again.WORTH MENTIONING: Palmer is still writing about characters with traditional morals and the only sex is within the bounds of marriage.FINAL DECISION: This book was an adequate one time read, but there was nothing in the story to elevate it to a read again book.CONNECTED BOOKS: INVINCIBLE is connected both to the Long, Tall Texans series and also the Wyoming Men series. This book can be read independent of those books, but there are recurring characters.STAR RATING: I give this book 3.5 stars.

Another mercenary riddled 'romance'
DP's newest 'romance' "Invincible" is, once more, a rehashing of the last several years' worth of novels she has published. Strong, mysterious hero? Check. Young, uneducated, virginal heroine who somehow knows lots of esoteric information about some (or several) subjects not taught in any small town high school? Check. Ridiculous plot wherein the heroine is in danger? Check. The love of a naive girl saving the hero from his loneliness? Check. Short, choppy sentences, because DP has apparently never heard of this wonderful thing called a compound sentence? Check. Pages of info dumps about online gaming (World of Warcraft)? Check. This one tries to mix it up a bit, however. The Cartel of Evil Drug Lords (CEDL) is not the primary antagonist, but rather a corrupt politician in bed with the CEDL is the villain of the piece. Of course, everyone and their brother (literally!) from previous related books makes a cameo, guest or starring role appearance, whether it makes sense or not in the context of the plot. We do get a father who is not an abusive jerk (he's reformed and a minister), but he was a neglectful husband and contract assassin! I would read a story about Carlie's father any day, rather than the rehashed junk we've been getting from DP recently.Carlie, of course, has a tragic incident in her past, and a photographic memory. We are TOLD this over and over, ad nauseum, but never shown any evidence of her photographic memory. Other than that sketch of a dead guy (that occurs in an entirely different book!), of course. Carson also has a tragic past, and gives the heroine a run for her money in the DP tragedy sweepstakes.Inappropriate women (the blonde snake with a secret of her own), sanctimonious speeches by the heroine (not her minister father), and the endless rehashing of plot points (Carlie has a wonderful memory, Jake is dangerous, Carson is a lone wolf, the politician is pure evil) makes for a tiresome read. The fact that Jacobsville is supposed to be a small town, with only one restaurant, makes it very difficult to believe that it has a real hospital, a full fledged police force, and an FBI office. The town I lived in in Texas (150,000 people and an Air Force Base) did not have an FBI office, and we weren't even close to a big city like San Antonio! Of course, since Jacobsville and Jacobs county seem to have a violent crime rate comparable to that of Detroit, maybe there is a need for the FBI...I'm not sure that I will be reading any other Diana Palmer books in the future, since she seems to be becoming more preachy with each novel. If it isn't pages of soliloquizing about whatever current event has caught her attention, it is the denigrating of what her heroines consider immoral people-those who have pre-marital relations (gasp! even her last few heroes have been relatively inexperienced), or don't believe in the same things as the heroine. Granted, morals are a good thing, but I don't read romance novels to have the author's opinions on everything from religion to smoking to out of wedlock children rammed down my throat.

Pleasent Surprise!
Yes, it was Palmers typical formula story line. But the formula works when there isn't so much contradiction in everything the alpha male says and dose.. Yes , you get tired of every lead female being less than pretty .. Small breasted.... A virgin , Uneducated, except in pursuits that impress the male.. And a victim of a violent crime..That being said there was a good back story with the father, and the alpha male and I liked the way the back stories were repeated when told to different people instead of just saying they were told. Made the story more life like..So it surprises me to say I enjoyed this book unlike her last 3 or 4 books. My only real complaint is Diana Palmer writes pocket book romance, not 400 page mystery or detective or any thing that should be priced above $5.00 . If I hadn't read everything she has ever written , I would never purchase one of these little lite romances she writes.. For the high price she is asking. We shouldn't be paying for the last squeeze of the $$$ you can get from your writing career ...

Not Dissapointed at all ...
It was expensive and I almost didn't buy it because of the price. I had ordered the paperback thinking it would be sent on the 29th needless to say I was wrong and it doesn't come out until Jan 2015 but I had two weeks to think I was going to read it on the 29th or else I would have NEVER paid $9.00 for a kindle book. That said I had just finished Wyoming Bold and this is the next book so I bought it. I was not disappointed at all in the book. I thought the story was good with a few surprises and it tied up an ongoing story line while including a lot of the people from earlier books. So while I did think the price for the Kindle book was to high I really enjoyed the story and I do recommend this book to anyone who really likes Diana Palmer's writing. I have to say that I don't understand the reviews that say "same type story" If you don't like her story lines/books why do you keep reading expecting another type book.

Carson and Carlie 2.5*
Wow! Another disappointing book from Diana Palmer.😩😩 I do not know why I keep persisting with this author. Maybe because it she was the author if my first romance book I read in my teenage years. I don't know .This story was long, slow snd boring, really. The plot is not bad but is a slow burner that never actually...wel, burns. There is no connection between the MC let alone any sexual chemistry. Disappointing

Carson and Carlie
Carson is hard core and Carlie see the world as the "Glass half full". As someone is trying to kill either herself or her father they are thrown together and get to know each other. Good story line with a lot of the old names turning up.
