Great little device
I have to admit that I was skeptical about this device, but I thought I'd give it a try. I tested it with my MacBook Pro and an iPad Air 2, and I absolutely love it.The device is small, but it feels very sturdy, which is good since it's holding $1,000 worth of iPad (128 GB LTE model). In case you can't tell from the pictures, the design is like an "H" turned on its side. The laptop screen fits in one part of the "H" and the iPad fits in the other. Then there is a large "thumbscrew" that you turn to make it secure. It's tight enough that I was able to carry it up and down a flight of stairs without the iPad moving. For me, this device was best when paired with "Duet Display" which is a utility for the Mac and iPad. The Mac version is free, the iOS is about $15. Once you install both, you can use your iPad as a second monitor for your laptop using a 30-pin or lightning USB connector. Why is that great? Because a) it's super fast, much faster than any Wi-Fi based screen sharing, and b) it keeps the iPad charged while you are using it as a second screen.A laptop with two screens? Yes, please! But even if you just want to hold the iPad up next to your iPad to use it separately, this device works great, and holds the iPad securely. It's easy to attach and detach, and has found a permanent place in my laptop bag.

The SideCar is a great solution (unless you get a deffective unit)
UPDATE: I got a new SideCar and my experience was different. You can read my updated review at the bottom. I initially ranked it 3 and now give it a 4.I tried the SideCar and the mountie. The SideCar is terrible to operate, It was difficult to screw and secure the iPad to my MacBook. That said, once setup, the iPad was secured and never moved. The mountie on the other hand is very simple to put and remove but doesn't secure the iPad as well. You can walk with the MacBook in hand and the iPad mounted with the SideCar, I wouldn't recommend it with the mountie (my iPad fell on the floor the first time I tried). If you use this setup, it is likely because you are nomadic (or you'd likely use a second screen). So if you plan to walk with the iPad mounted and want a secure solution, go for the SideCar, otherwise go with the Mountie!----UPDATED REVIEW:Dockem reached out to me saying it was probably because I got a defective unit and they sent me a new one free of charge. I was impressed with their customer support, especially since I didn't ask for anything! If this happens to you, definitely contact them!It is pretty much day and night between the two. I definitely had a defective unit, the new one is smooth to operate. It actually has replaced the Mountie for me which ended up being a pain in the ass to use because the rubber parts are poorly glued and the iPad would slowly slide out of it and fall. I never had any issue with the SideCar, once secured your iPad won't move. The only thing I regret is that the SideCar will sometimes remove my iPad screen protection when I unmount it. If you are careful it is not a big deal and not really the SideCar fault, I guess you can't have both good support and no suction at all.

BEWARE: Cheaply made, cheaply packaged, and lacks functionality (the viewing angle is TERRIBLE)
I rarely return products from Amazon, nor write reviews but I felt this product warranted a warning to others. To start, I was really excited about this product as I needed a companion device to hold my iPhone and display the mobile version of a website that I'm working on.To make a long story short, the issues I had with the product are:1. Cheap packaging (no biggie if the device performs)2. Made of cheap materials (again, no biggie if the device performs)3. Hard to get a good fit on the iPhone in portrait view (not enough real estate)4. In landscape mode on the iPhone, the SideCar mount's design resulted in the phone facing inwards at an angle that was useless)5. The thickness difference between the Macbook Retina's screen and the iPhone 6s Plus', the pressure is unevenly distributed and centered around the tip of the clamp. This made me realized what Greg said is possible true (the review is one of the critical reviews for this product). I do think that the device will damage my screen and it's not worth using the product long term to find out.the thing that annoyed me the most is the return shipping cost, it's almost 1/3 the cost of the product.EVEN AT THE NEW COST OF $21, THIS DEVICE IS NOT WORTH ITBuyers Beware

Would be great except for the smell....
Works ok to attach one device to another as advertised, but the smell is really bad and hasn't gone away yet. Giving 2 starts on account of the strong rubbery, plasticy smell.

works ok, smells terrible.
works decently. made out of cheap materials. smells like it was produced in a factory that allows smoking. reeks of cigarette for some reason.
