Makes a for a thoughtful and luxurious gift
I purchased this oversized coffee table book for as a gift for a friend who loves New York and it was such a hit! It is very heavy and the photos are gorgeous. My friend who received it thought it was such a luxurious gift - the type of thing that you love showing off in your home, but may not think to buy yourself. These Taschen city books may be one of my go-to gifts for now on.

Yikes? It's Art. It's History.
I have several Taschen art books. This is a great coffee table book. It is both art (street photography) and history (of NYC). Excellent reproductions - all things considered. Great selection of pictures. Gives a feeling of what NYC was like 100, 75 and 50 years ago. Shows great photography if you're into that kind of thing (which I am). Also, can be used defensively to knock attackers silly, as it weighs almost 10 lbs.

It's a big book!
Tons of great photos. When I'm done looking through it I use it to work out my biceps.

New York i love you!
I really enjoy this book, it's beautiful, with a great compilation of pictures, but i also have to say that the picture quality it's not good enough because of the over expouse contrast in almost every picture.Anyway its a highly recommended book

Love this wonderful "Table Book"
Love this wonderful "Table Book", photographs are most unique and beautiful, in depicting the history and spirit of my special city. The information and quotations, add to the experience of visiting and feeling the pulse of the growth and wonders of the awesome, New York City!!!! I often give this book as a gift to family and friends.

If you love NYC, you'll love this book
Whether you live in NYC or whether you love the city from afar, the selection of photos in this book is superb. Reuel Golden chose carefully, including photos from well-known photographers as well as relative unknowns. Some of the photos are easily recognized, but others feature different sights in this "photographers' paradise" city. I also love the graphic illustrations, as they truly add to the overall enjoyment. As an aside, the book is quite hefty - but that's all to the better, given the extensive contents.
