Highly recommended.
Nicholas Mander has written an authoritative and evocative narrative that perfectly complements the beautiful photos. He knows his subject, perhaps better than anyone. He owns and resides in the exquisite Owlpen Manor, shown on the front cover, and knows personally many of the people he has written about.Very high quality photos throughout and an especially intelligent and engaging text make this book a pleasure to read or simply look through. My only complaint might be that we only get a tiny taster of each house, two to five pages, and you will be left wanting to see more.Highly recommended.

Great purchase
This book captures the beauty of the classic British country villages. The photography is great. we bought this book after touring the Cotswold towns and area and found this the perfect memory preserver as well as a true picture of the area. This book is well done.

TWO TITLES but only ONE BOOK
"Country Houses of the Cotswolds: from the Archives of Country Life", was published by AURUM PRESS in Britain in 2008. "The Cotswold House: Stone Houses and Interiors from the English Countryside" is an IDENTIAL COPY, word for word, printed by the same [Singapore] printer and published by RIZZOLI in the USA in 2009. Don't be tricked by this duplicity. Nicholas Mander (the author) and AURUM PRESS should never have allowed RIZZOLI to publish this book under a different name while it is still for sale under the original title. It might be different if it was out of print, or 25 years later !!! Considering the normally superb reputation of both these publishers, I find this extremely disappointing. So PICK ONE. It is an excellent book with the outstanding photographs one expects from Country Life. Just don't buy them both !

Something Missing
Wonderful photography, but would have preferred they were all in color. Mostly done in black and white. Nothing lends itself more to the charm of the english countryside than the lush greens against the time-worn and mellowed stone structures. This is lost.

Articulate Review of Cotswold Houses
If you are looking for a comprehensive and chronological review of Cotswold houses and interiors, this book serves it up quite articulately. The only disappointment is that many of the images in this book are in black and white. The images are from COUNTRY LIFE magazine. About 50 houses are covered. Some are just exterior photos. You will learn a lot of history about these homes. The book is well-written and well-designed. It would be magnificent if most of the images were in color.
