Get a whiff of this one
I will forever be grateful to Patrick Suesskind for this book. It made me realize how important odor is for me.I cannot think of anybody else who wrote so extensively and knowingly about the importance of our ability to smell. It is a very original and unique book.It made me realize that I chose my lovers with my nose. I also realize that I cannot stand some people because of their scent. Not that they stink, I just do not like their particular body odor. Since I read this book - and I read it many times and also saw the movie several times, I planted my garden with lots of fragrant plants. I bought many new perfumes and I stop so much more often to smell the roses.I prepare food which will not only appeal to my taste buds and eyes but also to my nose.I also love the book because of its historical content. Suesskind transports us in a Paris and France that gives us a whiff of the stench, which many who could afford it, covered up with perfume. His description of his main character possessed with his mission to create the best perfume in the world is absolutely fascinating and I could not put the book down.

Klein
It's smaller than I thought it would be but it's very nice. It's the size of my hand and the cover has gold foiling.

From the land of the Brothers Grimm!
Magnificently written and read. This novel reads like a dark fairy tale ala Grimms but even darker, and definitely not something for children (although fairytales never were meant for children). A great allegory of what it means to love and be loved; to desire and be desired. So much more! Read it in the original German, if you can!

One of the best novels ever written
I read this novel in my mother tongue (Portuguese) and loved it so much that I decided I would try and read it in the original language, German. I've been studying German for about 7 or 8 years and still can't read it. Someday. The edition is very beautiful, the letters are OK, I really like the cover design. I would recommend reading this book in any language you're able to read, for it is really good. If you can read German, go for it, because it is the original language.

Suspense and drama filled
Great book to read as the story is engaging and harrowing. The story explores the mysterious deaths of young women and the search for a murderer.

A gripping tale, as novel as it is disturbing.
Das Parfum is the story of Jean-Baptiste Grenouille, a man born with an extraordinary sense of smell. The setting is Paris in the mid eighteenth century, a city that is the perfect backdrop for a story that is dark, disturbing, original and gripping. The book is highly original, moving in directions that the reader will not expect. Something very special.

Originality plus
Fascinating, couldn't put it down. I read this in German and was impressed with the author's use of the language. Surprise ending! Would recommend this book the advanced German student in perhaps second year of college.

Sehr gutes buch
Ich musste es für die Schule lesen, aber ich muss ehrlich bestehen, dass es mir wirklich gut gefallen hat. Die Art in der dieses Genie seine Umwelt beschriebt ist beeindruckend aber auch hinreißend.
