Beautiful, well-crafted and well-written monograph
Beautiful, well-crafted and well-written monograph on the great architect that fills in some of the blanks left by the overall-awesome Robert McCarter book Phaidon published back around 2006. As this is really the catalog for a museum retrospective on Kahn, it is focused as much if not more on the architect's drawing, paper architecture, and other items the exhibit could actually contain over finished buildings, though of course these are also included. Still, being able to see more of the architect's work and thus his process for designing is a great benefit. If I had to choose just one of the two (I have this and the McCarter book, also) I'd have to go with the McCarter book, as it's even more comprehensive and more focused on completed projects. However, it doesn't include as much on Kahn's drawings, models, and other aspects of praxis as this book. It's very worthwhile to own both if you're a serious fan or student of Kahn's work.

The newly commissioned texts are enlightening. However the same cannot be said of the photography. Still, this is the accompanying catalogue of the traveling exhibition and therefore important.

Great but Not what I expected.
I was expecting "traditional" monographie on the work of louis kahn. This book gives a detailed analysis of his life, ideas and the way he worked on the projects and some of his work outside architecture. It also goes deep in the analysis of Kahn's idiosyncrasies in some projects and gives an exhaustive view on them. Theres absolutely no "usual" project presentation on this book. It's a very Interesting and detailed analysis of an extraordinaire architect that some will find extremely detailed and interesting but for me it lacks an interpretation of his projects to complement all that information.
