Visualizing and Verbalizing: For Language Comprehension and Thinking

Exceeding expectations
I need to help my son with comprehension. I thought I would give this a try. I didn't realize that the author, Nanci Bell, had students like my child (with autism) in mind when she wrote this book. Her step-by-step process clears the way for me to understand her techniques from the ground up. I've never seen anyone get this in-depth at explaining that elusive quality of my son's mind, so I hope her techniques will work to discipline his energy and drive into sharing his ideas and understanding those around him.

Comprehension Strategy
Some people of all ages have difficulty understanding what they read. There are many reasons why this happens. One of those reasons has to do with an inability to visualize what is being read. Visualizing and Verbalizing presents in clear, explicit steps how to teach a student to visualize and thus better understand what they are reading. It won't fix every comprehension problem, but it is a wonderful tool that can empower some who are struggling to comprehend text.

I wish more books were like this
This book has very specific lessons and information so that a parent like me (I have no special needs or early learning education) can teach a child to improve comprehension and communication. So often special needs texts lack concrete instructions about how to work with kids -- this book is a fantastic investment for a parent concerned about reading comprehension and non-verbal learning.

Great condition. Glad I bought it used.
I have been looking for a good quality, well-priced used v/v manual for a while. I was expecting the book to be in worse condition because it was rated as "good." I was very pleasantly surprised there was only one chapter with the some highlighting. Otherwise, the cover, binding, and pages are in great condition.

visualizing & verbalizing
The book demonstrates good lesson plans with insight on why the material is presented in a certain way. I think it will be a very good addition to the RTI question, they can read the words, now how do I get them to comprehend what they've read?

This came highly recommended. I need triplamente it in the summer because of the time commitment required for implementation.

Exciting teaching approach
Exciting new approach for teaching students who have good decoding skills but poor comprehension. Shows potential for working with individuals with brain injury or autism as well.

It is just the manual. Not the kit.
Unless you have the materials in the kit already, it is hard to use. I would just buy this if you need a second manual for an additional teacher (for example). Also, you need to have been trained in the program by Lindamood Bell (in my opinion) in order to really do this with "fidelity".
