US Home Filter SC80-24X24X1-6 24x24x1 Merv 13 Pleated Air Filter (6-Pack), 24" x 24" x 1"

HIGHLY EFFECTIVE AIR FILTER FOR THE HOME. I have asthma, allergies, and COPD, and need an effective means to keep the air in my home clean and allergen-free as possible. Finding a store-bought air filter that will do the job has been very difficult. Finding replaceable MERV-13 filters was a true gift for me. I started using these 24x24x1 MERV 13 Pleated Air Filter (6-Pack) several months back. I find them to be extremely effective in cleaning the air of even the smallest dust particles. They make a noticeable difference in air cleanliness and result in a significant decrease of dust buildup throughout my home.These filters are just slightly smaller than most 24"x24" filters. Their size is 23 3/8" x 23 3/8". This results in them fitting somewhat loosely in a standard 24"x24" filter frame. This being the case, It doesn't appear that any significant amount of air bypasses the filter by going around the edges when the HVAC unit is running. If this is a problem for some, I'd suggest putting a covering of inexpensive masking tape along the edges of the filter to the frame to prevent any bypass. While I don't mask the edges of these filters in my system, I do place a sheet of MERV-7 high-lift roll filter material, 1/2" thick (see my other reviews), cut to 24"x24" over these MERV-13 filters. This additional roll filter material seals the edges of the pleated filter quite well and additionally provides great service as a pre-filter to the main filter. This greatly aids in extending the life of the main MERV-13 filter. I can change out the inexpensive pre-filter every two to three weeks and extend the life of the primary filter by at least three or four times. I find this method works very well for my circumstances. These 24x24x1 MERV 13 Pleated Air Filters are the heart of my air cleanliness system. I am so glad to have found them and plan to continue using them indefinitely into the future. Hopefully they will remain available on Amazon.

Don't buy these if you have central air with a return in the ceiling or, I would think, any horizontal mounting. They bang every time the air comes on or turns off because they are 3/4" thick not a full 1". They just catch the end of the frame because they are 23-3/8". I should have known better, and am not going to return them, so I put felt pads on the frame to hold them tight. Live and learn, not worth the extra pennies you save.

I was looking for a good substitute for the expensive Filtrete filters and came across this brand. It's good so far, can't really tell if it being just a tad under (perfect fit would have given it 5 stars) the 24x24 size I needed is a problem but everything seems to be fine.

These filters may be a little irregular in size, but they fit and worked okay. A good way to save money.
