'A Fistful of Dollars' - A mysterious gunman has just arrived in San Miguel, a grim, dusty border town where two rival bands of smugglers are terrorizing the impoverished citizens. A master of the "quick-draw," the stranger soon receives offers of employment from each gang. But his loyalty cannot be bought; he accepts both jobs…and sets in motion a plan to destroy both jobs…and sets in motion a plan to destroy both groups of criminals, pitting one against the other in a series of brilliantly orchestrated set-ups, showdowns and deadly confrontations. 'For a Few Dollars More' - Eastwood is a keen-eyed, quick-witted bounty hunter on the bloody trail of Indio, the territory's most treacherous bandit. But his ruthless rival, Colonel Mortimer, is determined to bring Indio in first...dead or alive! Sergio Leone's westerns: good but could be better
This 5 disc set from KL of Sergio Leone's The Man with no name trilogy, Once upon a time in the west and A Fistful of Dynamite is recommended by myself but It's not perfect. The films are of course with the exception of A Fistful of Dynamite are world famous, respected by critics and are some of the best westerns of all time. In regards of The Man with No Name trilogy, all 3 movies are very good but in my view For A Dollars More is my favourite as it's a better sequel to A Fistful of Dollars (1964), although this first movie is very good, Leone's remake of Akira Kurosawa's Yojombo was un makeable but Leone pulled it off. For A Few Dollars More has more shootouts and has a crazy, scary & brutal character in Indigo! I love The Good, The Bad & The UGLY but it's not as great as the first 2 movies because it goes into a War movie and the film looses direction from a Epic Western, the Director's cut of The Good, The BAD & The Ugly slows the film down like Apocalypse Now re dux as in various parts of this version it's not Clint Eastwood, Lee van clef & Ell Wallach speaking it's other actors mimicking them, other than this a hilarious performance from Wallach AS Tuco The rat and some pretty good shootouts including the shootout at the graveyard makes up for it.Now coming to Once Upon a Time in The West, in my view here is a masterpiece and is better than The Man with No Name trilogy, this movie is just awesome and blows the Dollars trilogy out of the water as it's a more rich and intelligent Epic Western and is Sergio Leone's best Western! Fantastic story and great cast from performances from Henry Fonda and Charles Bronson AND OTHERS, ALSO THE FILM HAS SOME SCENES OF SHOCKING VIOLENCE which makes it a truly great movieSergio Leone's last Western in this collection is A Fistful of Dynamite - more of a ACTION comedy THAN a Western, however now is regarded as a Cult favourite by many, there's not much plot here as James Co Burn and Rod Steiger team up and the body count rises. The result is a fun and entertaining movie but not great! My rating of all 5 discs in regards of quality in A/V goes from good to horrible and because of this I have only given Sergio Leone Westerns 3 stars here.Their are only 2 great discs in this collection which I can say have very good picture quality and great sound quality, these are A Fistful of Dollars (1964) & The Good, The Bad & The Ugly - original version, the other 3 discs are terrible in terms of A/V. For a Few Dollars more has poor sound and most of the film is quiet especially the shootouts, Even though it has 2 DTS HD formats it sounds very quiet and flat it feels more like the old DD5.1 tracks of DVD to me. The worst disc in this collection is Once Upon a TIME in The West, the audio is near silence even on the DTS HD track you have to really turn up the volume to hear the dialogue but you will go deaf, on a disc like this this should be better and the audio should be balanced like The Good, The Bad & The Ugly.A Fistful of Dynamite is poor as well!Picture quality is as good as it's going to get as the first 3 movies are Re-mastered BUT THE NEXT 2 MOVIES ARE NOT, I don't know why 2 movies would not be of the same quality as the other 3All in all KL have given us a fine set of some of the finest Westerns ever made by Sergio Leone, 3 very good, 1 Masterpiece and 1 cult favourite, make up this set, A/V is good on some discs on others the A/V quality needs a lot of work being done on 3 of the discs as their not re-mastered! All previous extras are included here on alldiscs, I would just like to see a definitive set of all Leone's Westerns cleaned up, Sound balanced correctly and some new extras, I'm sure Arrow or Criterion can do something.

A bluray set of Spaghetti Western Masterpieces!🍝🤠
Sergio Leone owned the Spaghetti Western genre. Others followed but were never on the same level. Lot of reviews crying about GB&U not having the lame extended cut. I don't like that version, never have, and never will. The voices don't match because Eastwood and Wallach were waaaayyy older when they redubbed those old scenes. Lee Van Cleef was long dead so they couldn't use his actual voice. The added scenes don't bring much and are a distraction. So...this set is perfect, the films are timeless. Kino did an excellent job of putting this set together. Bravo. 👏

Leone's & Eastwood's Spaghetti western trilogy.
Leone's spaghetti western trilogy has been released in various forms-video/DVD/ & I am sure in the 1970s they were available on cinefilm, all for home use, when I first saw them (again in the seventies), as an impressionable nine or ten year old, their music , images and Eastwood being in them, changed my idea of what westerns were-uptil then I had only seen John Wayne westerns, which even then were a different generations movies. I think (although can't be certain) that i saw them in order, and was sold on Westerns -with Eastwood and Sergio Leone movies. These are certainly the best I have ever seen, having owned the previous DVD versions, colours appear little better-& as others have stated these are Old pictures-over forty years, shot cheaply and in techniscope. The trilogy has Eastwood in what was to be a career defining role-insolent, single minded and ruthless humorous , even if Leone "borrowed" the storyline of "Fistful" from Akira kurasawa's Yojimbo.A few dollars more has Eastwood and Lee van cleef team up to get the gang whom murdered van cleef's sister.TgTbAtU has three leads Eastwood returning in his signature role, van cleef returning (as the baddie), and eli wallach as Tuco, often the butt of Eastwood's humour, also dishing a lot of his own humour. The trilogy has rightfully gained its place not just in Western history, but movie history, the recent Django unchained (Tarantino) is massively influenced by it-although DU doesn't have the miniscule budgets Leone had to contend with.I also got the 2010 set-as I have read that the more recent tgtbtu re-release has apparently got a "teal" effect on them, which I don't recall after numerous viewings on different mediums. If you can get for a tenner they a real bargain...

is truly amazing as the extras reveal
Three classic, iconic films which launched the career of one of the most enduring film stars of the last fifty years. The Man with No Name, which was actually a marketing ploy by the USA market, as Clint did have a name in all three films, was ingenious. These spaghetti westerns more or less breathed new energy into the western genre because the genre was slowly dying in the USA at the time. The musical score, by Ennio Morricone is also what makes these movies timeless. To think that Clint Eastwood was only fifth or sixth choice for this role, is truly amazing as the extras reveal. Some Hollywood stars considered for the role were two expensive, some turned the role down because of the supposed poor script, ie. Henry Fonda, James Coburn, Charles Bronson etc, were all considered before Clint. Rumour also states that Eric Fleming of Rawhide was offered the script before Eastwood. You won't be disappointed with these movies, the picture and sound quality is also an improvement on the standard definition DVD's I owned before.

the cowboy film will never be the same
I remember going to the cinema in 1967ish to see Fistful and coming out gobsmacked, though we didn't know we were gobsmacked back then. This trilogy changed everything; no longer were cowboys old men like John Wayne, they were just cool (though we didn't know they were cool back then). Sergio, you're my hero.
