Everything you need to get started
Having just had a major mid-life wake-up call (emergency gall bladder removal) I have the opportunity to change my diet for the better. It's a lot easier to change your eating habits during gastric surgery recovery as you reintroduce food gradually to see what will be manageable and what may not be possible anymore.Kristine Miles does a great job of explaining the benefits and 'whys' of moving to a mindful diet using raw plant-based smoothies. She explains the good balance available when combining fruits, greens, nut milks, seeds and superfoods in simple and easy to execute smoothie recipes. As she debunks myths about lack of complete protein and beneficial fats in the vegan diet, she shares nutritional information that makes sense while not advocating for a completely meat, dairy or gluten-free regimen.I'm excited to try the wide variety of recipes the book provides but even more happy that I have a good understanding of why I'm combining the ingredients I'm combining. There are good suggestions for supplemental powders from the superfood arena and how to take your regimen on the road if you want to stay true to your new way of nourishing your body. Thanks for a great starting guide - I'm confident it will make a big difference for me!

A Little Something for Everyone
This is the tenth green smoothie book I've bought. It's GOT to be my last! The book opens with with an excellent, easy-to-understand tutorial on everything you need to know about incorporating green smoothies into your diet. This section is not overly long-winded, as in similar books. As might be expected, there is a hard sell towards consuming a high-raw-foods diet. The author discloses her favorite appliance for green smoothies, and it's not one of the two big names in high-speed blenders! She also discusses her favorite brand of superfood, and why. What I like most about this book is that the author categorizes recipes according to specific benefits. For example, she has some blends meant for enhancing bone health, high-fiber, cardiovascular health, high-antioxidant, low glycemic load, etc. A short introduction to each section explains the author's understanding of said condition which gives rise to how and why the recipes were developed as such. Yes, other authors offer a smoothie for better skin, but it may just be lumped in with other sorts of recipes. There are other types of categories, too, like savory smoothies and dessert smoothies. Each recipe is meant to render about 1 liter of green smoothie, or two servings. The recipes are way too fruit-heavy for my personal liking. I wouln't eat that much fruit out of hand. If you're like me and would like to use less fruit, I recommend The Healthy Green Drink Diet: Advice and Recipes to Energize, Alkalize, Lose Weight, and Feel Great I acknowledge that if you're new to green smoothies or want to teach your kids to freak out (and maybe enlighten) their friends, than these recipes would be just the thing! Most of the recipes have ingredients that are easily found. There is minimal exotica; mostly that green superfood she likes. I also don't believe I can get my hands on a tamarillo. A little bit of maca, yacon syrup, and mesquite powder-very little. If you're not up to using that stuff, you can still get plenty of mileage out of this book. This book is recommended for beginners switching to a high-raw diet using green smoothies. If you're a veteran at drinking 10-ingredient smoothies from, say, Victoria Boutenko's books, most of these recipes will seem really simplistic. I'd say this book would be of supplemental use, but worthwhile.

Some seemingly contradictory statements.
It is pretty good; however in Part 1 in the seasons chapter, the recipes are so light is is difficult to read them. Also it would have been helpful if the author had listed places to get some of the ingredients like, bee pollen, hempseeds, cacaco. Also page 76 third paragraph there is a sentence that says, Sugars that contain a higher proportion of fructose and should be avoided include honey, fruit juice concentrates...etc.. on page 78 the sentence under Raw honey says that honey was the best choice... This seems contradictory and thus makes me wonder if other parts of the book is contradictory.

Great Book!
This is the perfect book if you're just starting out wanting to know all about green smoothies. It had every helpful hint you probably never even considered before. It's also got so many different recipes for every different type of person, that there's a smoothie in there to satisfy everyone. I have no regrets choosing this book out of the selection I had to choose from. I've put the knowledge I got from this book into action, and I definately feel more energetic and vibrant.

Excellent starter
As a Diabetic who's getting very concerned with the levels of sugar in all sorts of food I have been very seriously looking into Green Smoothies and a totally Raw Vegan lifestyle. As i am totally new and don't have clue I saw this book with 300 recipes included so I purchased it and I can certainly say it is so very well written in nice compact precise sections that tell you all you need to know about certain fruits Vegetables and other supplements such as Spirulina and Wheat-grass with the nutrient values and other health benefits. Written by a very knowledgeable person who has obviously studies her subject in depth she explains how food is used and broken down by the body and why most of our food is destroyed before the body can use the nutrients contained in the food. Some of the ingredients are the American name for vegetables (Kale for example) but it's easy to look up the English equivalent. I really like how very easy it is to make the recipes as they are only a few items such as Apple and Banana with Lettuce with milled Peanuts etc. There is also a very very good website based in England that sell everything very cheap (Vitalhealtheurope) making the very healthy Green Smoothie diet the best diet around. I have no hesitation in recommending this book to anyone serious about changing their lifestyle for the better. Basically the only book you will ever need IMO

The book starts with a lot of theory. The recipes are like: Choose what you like! I'd like to have a book with less theory and some nice and appetizing photos.
