Namaste Yoga: The Complete First Season[DVD]

Wow!
Before purchasing and using this yoga DVD, I had only watched and tried a few poses and was bored stiff. I thought the only way to get a work out was by sweating ferociously or by exercising in a way that would negatively impact my joints. I admit I was wrong - it is truly invigorating and will continue to do it for the rest of my life! I am most definitely a beginner at the age of 38 - I chose to do this because I am trying to get away from high/moderate impact (even walking!) due to pain and crepitus in my knees and ankles.I am currently 2 weeks into this DVD. So I am still considered a newby. This DVD was very instructional (got to the point after a few episodes I could do what she was saying without having to watch) and very clear. At times, she misses an instruction, but I know what is going to happen so it isn't always necessary. I read a poor review because someone couldn't tell what to do because the cameras focused on a person's face instead of the pose. I found this only with one pose (the Monkey Pose) at one time - if you pay attention, she tells you exactly what you should be doing. There are times that the sequences are fast but it is all about fluidity. I appreciate that and it's not boring. Honestly, if you have ever done a workout DVD before, it is COMMON to get lost at first, until you do it enough to get the hang of it. This is actually so much better than anything I had ever done before.Another thing I enjoy is that the entire DVD is broken up in episodes then each episode is broken up again into a beginning sequence, main sequence, and cool down. I like it that I can add more to my workout: I do a beginning sequence, 3 main sequences and cool down. Instead of a 20(ish) minute workout, I do so for about 50 minutes.I wish I could give this 10 stars :)

Love the Kate Potter series
I love these videos. I've been following along with Namaste Yoga since this first aired as a TV series on the now extinct FitTV. Although the price is a bit daunting at first, it's because you get a ton of different sequences in each set. The warmups cycle through I think it's three or four different variations, and the cooldowns are always the same, but the main sequence is different each time through.I do agree in part that this is probably not the best series for an absolute beginner because the camera does spend an awful lot of time panning over various body parts instead of showing the body in its entirety in each pose. However, through each sequence you're walked through expressing each pose three times (sometimes on each side) before moving to the next pose. Most have plenty of time to settle into the pose correctly. If anything watch each workout before doing it for the first time so you know what's coming up.I do feel that most of the poses in these videos are beginner with a couple intermediate/advanced poses in only a select few workouts. You don't have to worry about doing any inversions, for instance.I enjoy doing these as part of my morning self-care routine and since I've been consistent with it, I can tell my body really appreciates it as my strength and flexibility has improved quite a bit.

My Favourite Yoga Practice--Gets me out of Bed!
I've done a number of different yoga classes and DVDs and this is by far my favourite type of practice. For doing yoga on your own, this series is fantastic!I had discovered Namaste on TV and was doing it regularly until we moved and changed cable providers. I'm so happy I finally got the DVD! I am currently 5 months pregnant and have now been doing a routine daily since I received the DVD (there are a few routines I skip because they're becoming difficult with my belly, but most of them are fine). This literally gets me out of bed in the morning. I thought I would have trouble motivating myself to wake up earlier to fit it in, but I don't. I wake up to give myself enough time to do the workout because I WANT to. It makes me feel so good physically and emotionally. The sessions are short, but I still feel that I'm getting a good workout (especially combined with a walk afterwards). You can always add in another 12 minute "dynamic flow" to lengthen the workout if you feel you need more.I believe this is a great practice for yogis of all levels. The way the flow builds up to the final routine is awesome because it gives you an opportunity to learn the poses if you're new, or improve on them if you're more experienced. I especially find that by the end, I really get the breath integration down and it makes the flow feel great.Another plus of this series is that it gives you variety, rather than getting a DVD with the same routine on it. I just follow along in sequence and do a different routine every day.Honestly, if you're looking for a yoga DVD to practice with on your own, this is the BEST. Worth every penny! I'll be getting season 2 and probably some of Kate Potter's other DVDs, too!

Favorite Yoga Workout
I first discovered Namaste Yoga on TV and I was hooked! It's a great workout but not too stressing on the body.It takes about 10 practices to keep up with the flow, but it's worth it. If you want to try it before you buy it, the first session from season one is on Youtube. I highly recommend it!

What’s up with the 5 star reviews?
I bought this DVD because of the reviews. I regret it.The narrator’s voice is toooooo soft that it gets drowned out by the background music. Half of the time I cannot hear what I am supposed to do.The camera focuses on certain body parts which have absolutely no relation to the pose or the transition of the pose...I need to look at how to do a pose, not look at somebody’s abs for a few seconds.

Not For People New to Yoga
I have taken yoga for a number of years, but with studios being shut down because of Covid 19, I thought I would try some yoga DVD's from home. I decided to try Namaste Yoga and it is o.k., but I am somewhat disappointed. The workouts are definitely not for newbies, because there is no coaching, explanation or instruction given by the narrator which is a must for newbies so they don't get hurt.. The narrator is sometimes hard to hear, speaks too quickly and the camera moves around way too much. In addition, the camera does not show the entire body of the instructors at the beginning of some of the poses. They are sometimes halfway through the segment before we see it in its entirety. Maybe you need to do these workouts several times so you can commit them to memory. Until then you will not get a decent workout.

Meh...
There are a few things I really don’t like about these workouts. The first thing is that the camera is ALWAYS moving, and it’s hard to see what they’re doing especially since it’s often focused on one body part at a time. I find she speaks way to quickly, and always after the move, so I can’t keep up and I’m always trying to see what they’re doing. I also find it’s hard to hear her clearly, like her voice doesn’t carry over the music. To give some context, I’m not new to yoga and know the poses. I’m just unable to see or hear what I’m supposed to do without focusing on them for a while. I don’t like that I have to turn my head every 5 seconds to see what they’re doing - defeats the purpose of yoga in my mind. The moves are not all that challenging, so it’s not really a workout. If you’re just looking for light, basic yoga, this is for you. The scenery and music is nice and calming.
