This is a wonderful addition to any school textbook covering Ancient Chinese culture
This is a wonderful addition to any school textbook covering Ancient Chinese culture. Focusing on what life was like for children it covers: clothing, toys, foot binding, education, religion, books, and life in a populated city, the Silk Road, the major dynasties and what they are best known for. The writing is interesting and informative, perfect for intermediate age students through middle school. However, reading about the practice of foot binding was enough to make my daughter grateful she did not grow up in early China.

Good content, weak on graphics
The content of this book did not disappoint me. It covers topics such as shopping, clothing, and religion. Unfortunately, the best pictures are on the cover. A lot of the pictures are almost like clip art or stylized designs, not images or drawings of real artifacts. This was rather disappointing. It is still a useful text and it is easy for second-graders to read (with the exception of some of the proper nouns). I recommend this book, but the images leave a lot to be desired.

If you like americanised publications - this would be Ok. The information is quite engaging - but 'kids' will always be young goats to me!
