The brilliant camp classic Canadian TV show of the 70s, featuring the quintessential horror king, Vincent Price. This live action show, which combined variety, humor, top 40 music, and educational segments, were all flavored by the spice of mock horror, at Castle Frightenstein.

70's Canadian kids show nostalgia
What can I say about this show? An early seventies cult classic. I remember seeing just a few episodes in Austin, where I grew up. But I remember it well, and it is very nostalgic for me. Definitely dated. But fun for the cheesy factor. clusters Vincent Price, and this dude that's practically every character on the show, and this big guy name Igor that you get used to, he's pretty good. Lots of repetitious episodes, since it was a daily or weekly show. Probably if you're from Canada it is more nostalgic for you. Not for those with a lack of attention span. A quaint children's classic-monster show that was still a great fad back in the seventies.

A welcome treat
Like most of the other reviewers I remember this show from my childhood.First off, I was very impressed with the quality of the DVD transfer of this show. The only bits of this show I've seen since childhood were off the internet and those were low quality. I've also read in various places that the orignal master reels may have been destroyed. So I was very impressed when I popped this in and see a very vibrant, crystal clear image. Some of the effects definately show thier age, but the image and sound are both excellently preserved. The show itself is just as fun, silly, bizzare and charming as it was when I was a child. Several times I found myself laughing at the jokes just on account of how corny they are.As others have also said, it is wonderful to see Vincent Price and hear that voice again. The show definately still works for children, and it still works as an adult too. This is VERY much worth picking up again.4 out of 5 stars because very, very little will ever get 5 stars in my opinion. The picture and sound could be a little cleaner still (Though they are great) and I would like to see a wider selection of classic rock songs on the next DVD (Though I understand licensing will play the biggest role in that).

Canadian Campy Comedy Classic
Billy Van co-stars with Billy Van & Billy Van in "The Hilarious House of Frightenstein". The cult comedy series about a has-been vampire scientist who is trying to revive his monster "Brucie". Contains parodies of "The French Chef" (with Grizelda)and Wolfman Jack, (with a real wolfman DJ)Contains educational bits too with "Dr. Pet Vet" who brings live animals to the show. Also stars Vincent Price who recites ghoulish poems

A great part of returned child memories....
I do say that it is great that a show has been brought back to life (which most have forgotten). Anyways, its wonderful seeing the master of horror Vincent Price at his best and the great comedian acts of Billy Van (which were many) and crew. A great childeren's program for the young and old at heart.

The Librarian
I loved this show as a teen, and did not think I would ever see it's like again. I am so thankful I found it on Amazon! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

Loved the Show, Where's the DVD?
I've had delays before on "Amazon-supplied" items and don't mind waiting, but why do you have it still listed as 7-10 working days for delivery when mine is now extended 3 more weeks? That said, Frightenstein was my intro as a kid to scary stuff in the 70's and made it easier for me to watch and enjoy the films intended to scare. So for kids today it's still fun to watch and at the same time, when they see monsters in the "scary" movies they know it's just guys pretending. Great stuff

Not worth purchasing
A laugh trac and horrible editing took a once great show from my childhood and ruined it. Which does not surprise me when it had to be Americanized. This version is garbage don't waste your time and money purchasing this item. Obviously the producer has never seen this show in it's original form.

Could Have Been Better.....
It's great to finally see this issued on DVD, but I was a little disappointed. It's not that i expected the parting of the red sea...but there are a few problems:1) the insert has the 4 episodes listed, but 1 is repeated twice! (Only on the paper insert, not the DVD itself)2) the actor Fishka Rais is listed as Rais Fishka.3) the horrible laugh track is on this DVD. Imagine the Librarian with a laugh track! Takes away from the whole experience. (Now that is scarey...no?)4) the quality varies. Episodes 1 and 4 are great. 2 & 3 seem shakey..and jerky and you can see lines from the VHS source running through the segments.5) the star of the show was Billy Van, but you get the impression it features Vincent Price more prominently.6) the closing credits are replaced with a screen shot that states the syndicator.Suggestions: fix the above but more importantly - GET RID OF THE LAUGH TRACK. It's awful.Still I am not disappointed in buying this DVD. Billy Van is just such a brilliant performer. If there was ever star that Canada has produced....it's Billy Van!

Had I paid full price... I'd be pi$$ed!
I TOTALLY agree with the last guy! I should have read the reviews first. I've recently been watching the reruns on cable television, and this dvd just doesn't cut it. The laugh track, as well as additional audio sounds, interfere with the audibility of the characters. During a Grizelda the cook sketch, I had a hard time hearing her dialogue over the added bubbling cauldron noises, and unnecessary laugh track. It was a great campy show, but it wasn't THAT funny! There's childrens laughter before the jokes and punch lines are delivered. For the same amount of money, you could add the Drive-In Classics channel to your cable subscription, and receive about 130 days of complete 1 hr canadian episodes... with equal or better visual quality, and NO added audio!!! Highly disappointed.

Disappointing
I wish I'd read the reviews before ordering. As already stated, these are indeed the half-hour US syndicated versions. They are sloppily edited and include a terrible laugh track. I'm still almost tempted to recommend these for purchase, if only to enourage the rights-holders to re-issue more episodes on DVD(the proper, full, one-hour Canadian eps with NO laugh track) but, really... this is a disappointment and the great work of Billy Van deserves better.
