Freeplay makes the best wind-up radios
I was surprised at the size of this radio when I unpacked it. It is far smaller than the older Eye-Max or Summit Radios that Freeplay produced in the past. Nonetheless, it seems to be a solid performer. Not especially sensitive, but let's face it, this is an emergency/camping radio, so don't expect super performance in that area. The addition of a lighted LED dial is nice if your power is out. The bands are selected in order by a button; this is superior to the old Eye-Max which had kind of a clumsy method of selecting the weather band. WX band reception seems quite adequate. I could do without the flashlight and would rather have a bigger speaker or an additional speaker, as the audio from this small unit is not nearly as powerful as the older, larger Freeplays. One last nitpick: Freeplay seems to be abandoning regular wall warts for "USB Recharging". I'm really not a fan of this, though maybe it makes the radio rechargeable in more parts of the world. And I haven't tried out the ability of the unit to charge my cellphone ... I'm skeptical when the manual says that a minute of winding gives "2 to 3 minutes of talk time". Don't buy it because you want to recharge your electronics, get it because it's a well made wind-up radio.

Choose another option
Battery is mediocre, flashlight is dim, hand charger is not very good, solar panel is a joke, and low quality. Why did I keep it? Because Amazon sent me a nasty email for a prime member sending back crappy items.

Does Not Work! Don't Buy!
When we finally needed it and went to set it up not even a month after purchase, it wouldn't power on no matter what method of charging we did. Not to mention the old tech. No power cord provided, and the power port matches up to a phone charger I had for my phone in like 2012. We just went through hurricane nate overnight and are fortunate we didn't need this. I am not happy that we paid $60 for this. Would really like to return for my money back but we just missed the cut off.

would buy again
excellent for emergency use, built in rechargeable + solar recharge + hand crank + ac adapter covers all bases to keep operating under austere conditions.

Best emergency product and no batteries needed
I have several "crank" products for when the "big one" hits and there are no batteries left! Mostly I use them when the power goes out in a wind storm where I live. I have the older larger version that I crank up and listen to calming classical radio and turn to news to find out how the real world is doing because I prefer to save my cell phone use during an emergency, but this new smaller version radio has phone charger and flash light besides the Radio! Now I have two great crank radios, one for each floor.
