Worked Great Once!
I love to barbecue but I'm not exactly good at it. The meat is either under-cooked or over-cooked. Rarely is it perfect. I had to find something to help me. I found this thermometer and bought it right away. It was my first cooking thermometer so I was pretty excited. I started with some steaks. The guide says that 150-155 degrees would be what I wanted. I eagerly watched the thermometer climb to 155 degrees. Once 155 was hit, I grabbed the steak, put it on the plate, cut it open and it was perfect! I'd finally cooked the perfect steak! A few weeks later I was ready to show my wife my cooking skills. The candles were lit, the music was low, the wine was tasting great and the steaks were on the grill. After a few minutes, I grabbed my secret weapon, went out the the grill, hit the power button and a bunch of 8's flashed on the little screen! Nooo I screamed inside my head! My wife is watching! I told her it was normal, waited a few minutes, then hit the power button again. Again there were 8's! I smiled at my wife and told her I needed to grab something from the kitchen. Once I got in there, I opened the battery compartment and saw that greenish white ash you see when a battery has fried the system. I quickly ran into my office and grabbed some new batteries. I put them in, pressed the power button and nothing happened, not even the 8's! I then logged on to my computer and started searching the web to see if anybody knew what the 8's were all about. From what I read, the thermometer was dead. After about 30 minutes of looking for a better answer, I remembered the steaks! There were still on the grill! I ran to the grill, opened it up and found 2 smoldering black pieces of meat. I then grabbed a phone and ordered a pizza. I would not recommend this piece of junk to anybody. Didn't even get to use it two times.

Great & Easy To Use!
Whenever I'm cooking meat I must check the internal temperature to verify it's cooked to the appropriate & safe temperature. This was very helpful when I cooked my Thanksgiving Turkey! This product is digital, very easy to use & gives a quick final temperature within seconds. You turn the product on, insert it into the meat, you'll see the temperature stop moving when it's at the final number. It remembers your last measurement, you can easily change between Fahrenheit & Celsius by pressing the °C/° F Button, it has a 10 minute auto shutdown (I haven't tested this yet) & the digital screen is easy to see. I clean mine with dish soap & warm water, not hot water. I only get the probe wet, not the black part where the buttons & digital display are. I towel dry or air dry it & once it's completely dry I store it back in the clear tube it came in.

Works for me.
I purchased one of these before but some kind helper put it in the dishwasher during a busy Holiday season and that did it in. It actually may have kept working with a battery change but I just bought another one. There was a lot of internal rusting. I did get a lot if use out of it prior to its demise, baking bread and making candy. It's fairly quick, quick enough fur me, and it's the first thermometer I've ever had that worked. It serves my purposes well. I can't vouch for its accuracy as I have nothing to compare it to, but I trust it and nothing I use it for is that critical. The fact that I bought a second one says it all. But don't put it in the dishwasher.

Great Item - So Far
Update: With six months of use...I love this thermometer. No issues with durability. My main use is grilling. Now we enjoy meats that are "spot on" - no longer over-cooked but nice and moist. The temperature readings, therefore, are well within the range of where they should be. One hint for grilling is you may want to have a glove handy; gets a little warm holding the thermometer. BTW, the plastic housing is such that the heat doesn't affect it - however, I just take spot readings.(Note: first review) Have had this item for a short time. It does give a quick reading. The "jury is still out" on durability. The housing is plastic and the buttons seem flimsy when you push on them. I've had similar products and they all fail when buttons loose contact through use. We'll see...I'll let you know if this happens.

It's okay
The biggest issue I have is how unbalanced this is. When you stick it in something to test the temperature if you're not holding it on the end - well let's just say that it's nearly impossible to use if you're not holding it - it's so unbalanced. It's not particularly instant. It doesn't take a minute to read but it's certainly 15-20 seconds to take a true reading. Also, I've used it twice and I don't believe it gives absolutely accurate readings either. The first time I tested one piece of chicken which it told me was at the appropriate temperature but when I pulled the chicken off the grill it was still only reasonably warm in the center and still a little pink. The funny thing is I tried it about a minute later and it gave me almost the exact same reading... but this time it was done perfectly. The 2nd time I used it it performed a little better. I'll have to test it to see how accurate it really is but after "failing" once I don't completely trust it. It wasn't expensive so I'm not going to waste time returning it but if it fails again I will update here and just get something else.
