My secret for establishing a healthy root system
I can't say enough good things about these pots. They are easy to assemble. They work like a dream. Every plant i put in these thrives and develops a robust root system for me to transplant to a bigger pot. They work best for young plants you are trying to establish, or small plants that like water which you don't have time for. The soil stays the perfect pH, but plenty of air to keep bacteria and fungus from killing your plants. I use these as a sort of "preschool" home for my baby plants which I have water-propagated or seedlings that need lots of humidity. If you use these pots before planting your young plants, they grow a strong root system. This reduces shock on the plant when re-potting. Re-potting is a breeze- they just slide right out, no broken roots. The white is so classy! Great pots to rehab dried out plants too. It offers this unique method of drenching the plant in hydration while safely aerating the soil and roots. Not to mention plants LOVE to be watered from below- natural system they are use to.CONS: These are 4" pots. The outer shell is 6 inches, and there is a 2 inch gap from the walls, so don't plan to re-pot a 6-inch plant in here. It's too small. You can reduce the soil ball to fit, if you have a plant in rehab. Works great for that. Also, they don't snap closed. So, the black holder in the middle tends to wobble if you hold it wrong. It's really not that big of a deal though because you get use to how to securely pick them up. It needs water replaced once a week or so, therefore it sorta needs to come off easily and check health of the plant.

These are great.
Easy to run the string through and fill. Will see how African violets do, but they look really nice for being plastic and they are a Nice size for the cost. The insert is about the size of a small clay pot. The outer pot makes it look bigger than what actually holds the dirt. Just FYI

Great buy
I love these, and think i will get more. Finally got a chance to use these, this past weekend. They really bring the plants to life, give them enough air for the roots to breathe and waters perfectly. I provided only 4 stars because I was missing string for the pots.

perfect for self watering
These planters would be perfect for your indoor garden. I liked the look of these but I wanted them for my herbs that I grow. They were just a little to big for my indoor greenhouse. They would be a great item to have but I had to return mine.

Great pots but quite small for me
I was gifted a set of pots that looked like this a few years ago and love them so when I saw these I purchased them thinking I was getting a steal of a deal. Well unfortunately, I failed to notice the dimensions were MUCH smaller than anticipated. So I do think these pots are great for herbs or other small plants because they fit nicely on the windowsill and they get evenly watered continuously without constant attention. Just make sure you realize these are very small. The inner pot will hold about a 4 inch plant? My much larger set has held up well even outdoors so hopefully these will too.

Great planters for violets.
Just keep filled with water and fertilizer and they rake care of themselves.

So impressed by size, looks, and price, I just ordered again
You can't find anything as good as these in any store around here. They are very good looking and shiny. The insert looks good and can be used to self water plants via a rope wick they include, or the airy inner piece is designed just right to allow dry loving plants to drain without using the wick. You can remove the insert and allow larger sized pots to fit in the white pot as your plants grow. I'm back to order a second set. I'm not sure they'd last long in the plastic destroying outdoor summer sun, but indoors they're great and I'm sure will last.

Work well, if flimsy
These would be really good for someone who is waters their plants inconsistently, who travels for a week or less at a time, or who has an automated watering system that can over water smaller plants. One caveat is that they're quite light/flimsy, so they'll be knocked over easily if you place them outside. This can be overcome by adding some rocks to weight them down.
