NO CD or online resources included, comprehensive, useful.
The book fine-tunes your skills that Book 1-3 covered. It teaches appregios for 3 octave scales with fingers and mostly a lot of shifting exercises and repretoire. I think this book is a good end to the series and excellent for players who want to review the fundamentals or keep a reference with them.

I have delusions of being ready for this book
...but I love it. Not only am I trying to teach myself, but I also do some music notation for various mixed musician groups, of different genres, and this helps me understand what notation might be needed by the professional strings player. All of the books in this series have been very helpful to me. The ones that come with a CD/DVD disc are the best.

It was for my granddaughter. She has used this series successfully for several years. I'm glad she's making such progress.

guidance for moving past early levels
I bought this book because my kid had outgrown the beginner material, but we weren’t sure what to do next. Their teacher recommended adding more technical work, and this book fit that need. It didn’t promise quick results, but it gave us something we could work through without guessing. The scale work was the first thing we tackled. My kid wasn’t thrilled at first, since scales aren’t exactly fun, but the layout made them feel less intimidating. We took our time, sometimes slowing down way more than needed, but it helped build a better routine. Over a few weeks, intonation started to settle. The shifting pages helped my kid understand that changing positions isn’t something to fear. At first, the movements felt awkward, but the consistent patterns in the book helped build confidence. We practiced in small chunks, sometimes repeating the same lines on and on, but it didn’t feel like wasted time. The bowing exercises were almost meditative. We would sit in the living room, going through the motions quietly. My kid would sometimes ask why these patterns mattered, and we’d talk through it together. I noticed that over time, their sound in longer pieces became smoother, even if they didn’t realize it. What I liked most was that the book didn’t rush us. It gave my kid space to grow at their own pace, and it made me feel like I had a reasonable way to support them. It’s not flashy or exciting, but it’s dependable, and it helped us take the next step in violin study.

Excellent book and series.
Excellent book and series. Good resource for individual and group lessons. Laid out in a progressive and methodical manner. Allen, Tellejohn, and Gillespie are music educators who present the material in a very clear way.
