Just buy a stone IMO
Gauge reads up to 900 degrees, but it literally became difficult to read after one use, and impossible after two uses. It just displays temp under the stone, not the stone itself. For the latter I bought a surface temp laser instant reader. This contraption fits perfectly on my old TEC grill with grates removed...or i could have saved $ and just bought a stone to go on top of grates. I did ask to what temp the gauge remains good, but the co didn't respond, so i presume it's about 600. They did send me a whole new set to replace. Not sure what top temp the gauge got to, but the stone never got over 600F. Regardless, i love homemade thin dough and cooking on grill. Just preheat 15 min and then awesome NY thin crust done in 6 min removing parchment paper after 3 min.
