Use this to learn, to teach, or as a reference.
If you are on the fence about buying this and haven't "looked inside" (free preview), do it now. If you have and weren't impressed, go back and look again. The trick to getting a preview of the actual contents is to keep hitting "surprise me!" until you see some of the more detailed "plates."For those who don't want to read my ramblings, here's the summary:- all ages (seriously)- all levels (very knowledgeable to complete beginner - without being overwhelming)- wonderfully illustrated (actual medical illustrations - no pictures, clearly marked, detail without being crowded)- I know five stars is suspicious, but the only improvement I could think of was making the pages more durable so it could be kept at the barn. Then I realized that would a) defeat half the purpose and b) actually take away from the overall quality. So I decided I actually wouldn't change anything. There's an index in the back, which is really nice (unless you don't like indexes). There's also a few blank pages for notes, if you actually plan to write on the original pages (the horror!).This book truly is for all ages as it's easy to chose the level of technicality you want. Have some D Pony Clubbers (usually younger children, for those not familiar with USPC)? There are some great overview illustrations you can use. Those seriously studying anatomy will find those same pages useful, as both technical and lay terms are given (e.g. "carpus or knee" and "tarsus or hock"). A great example is the book's deconstruction of the hoof. The first illustration has the basic terms for the kids with a very detailed description ("...junction of the skin and the soft horn of the periople...") for those interested. The following illustration goes into much more detail and includes illustrations at the microscopic level, again doing a great job covering key points.A little background: I am not a professional or a vet student. I am an engineering student that wanted to have a reference book that I could easily learn from without being overwhelmed. (I often stare blankly at my textbook on microelectronic circuits.) When I got this book, I could tell you the basic parts of the horse, but that's it. After initially skimming through it, instead of feeling lost I felt excited (and not just because I got to use colored pencils). Sure, there was a LOT of information and I skipped over the parts that looked too technical. But I could also actually understand some parts and get a general idea for others. This is not a dry textbook or one you read five times and still not understand. Nor is a childish coloring book. I know I keep coming back to the coloring, but it makes it fun for kids and helps the older kids and adults connect the term to the physical part. In conclusion: It is an effective learning tool. Hope that was helpful despite being written six hours past my bedtime (oops).Oh, one last point: I like to see what I'm buying before actually buying it and of all the books I could preview online, this one seemed to best fit my needs (casual learning).

great book!
got this for my horse anatomy and physiology class and it was the best purchase to help learn and see where everything was located and getting to color it rather than looking at it in black and white

WOW So Much Detail
If you are like me, we have been looking at different equine anatomy coloring books for at least twenty minutes trying to decide which one to get. But I finally settled on this one and it just arrived today. I love it! So much more detail then I could have ever asked for! I also love that it is spiral bound, it makes it much easier to look at for me. Definitely recommend!

Not digging the Binder look, However!
While my daughter states that this book is very informative and educational, we didn't really dig the binder look as it will easily be torn off. Otherwise, not bad at all

Great quality.
I am a Hippology Coach for 4H and use this product with the youth I teach. This book is very educational and gives good diagrams of the horse's body.

Horse Anatomy
This book is recommended reading together with "How Your Horse moves" for a one day massage course for horses that I am doing. Colouring in the muscles really does help with the learning process. Using this book in tandem with the how your horse moves book is proving to be a really easy and simple way of learning the structure/muscle groups of equines - highly recommended.
